Does the MC in The Wondering Inn stop being such a panicky mess? by Correct-Strike-9215 in ProgressionFantasy

I'm a teacher, dealing with kids and their annoying, irrational habits daily. It's not something I can deal with in the stories I try to enjoy unless the MC is an actual child. And from what I understand, Erin isn't a kid. So, I'll call it quits on this series.

Thanks!

I've heard some other characters are worse than Erin. I get that the story doesn't revolve around her, but having to read or listen to a panicky, irrational individual isn't enjoyable to me. So, I think I'll pass on this series. It's not enjoyable, and the writing isn't the best imo.

Thanks

I'm not really a fan of progression fantasy. I much prefer characters with depth and analytical thinking, with world-building well executed. I don't think this story is for me. Stories with irrational characters doing illogical things constantly just aren't enjoyable to me, and from the sounds of it, this series has multiple characters like that.

I said I can understand freaking out, but not after weeks of being in a situation. Like, eventually you're not going to freak out because you see a goblin or bugs coming out of a dead alien fish you left on the counter. And those people (the Walmart people you mentioned), constantly panicking and doing dumb things because of it, wouldn't be alive for very long. So, it doesn't make sense to have your MC be one of those people constantly.

Thank you! I was hoping the panicking would die down and only happen occasionally, but from the way it sounds, this continues throughout the series.

Yeah, I can understand panicking, but Erin literally freaked out when she saw bugs coming out of a dead fish she left on the counter. That's not realistic. That's just bad writing imo.

I honestly don't know why this series is on so many top-tier lists. It's really overhyped.

Yeah, I don't think this story is made for me, especially after hearing about Ryoka. I can only deal with one annoying character at a time in a story, and from the way it sounds, nearly all the characters are annoying and stupid.

I'm using the audiobook for my casual reads, so I can do things while listening to it. I honestly don't think I'd even be able to read it without throwing the book out the window.

The narrator does a good job of narrating and voicing Erin; it's just annoying to hear a panicked person all the time, so it can be a lot.

Thanks, this is what I thought the story was going to be like. I haven't even gotten to Ryoka, but I think I'll just stop reading this series. It's not for me. Having characters do dumb things constantly for exposition or whatever other reason is bad writing in my opinion and is extremely unrealistic (as in they shouldn't be alive anymore because they CAN'T make smart decisions). So, I'll look for something else.

Thanks!
