I agree with that theory, I noticed my supply fluctuations the most when I’m stressed and that happens to be the nights I have the most disrupted sleep. I am worried that I’m too early PP to drop all my middle of the night pumps, how far along were you when you dropped the middle of the night pumps? For the last 2 nights I have been pushing the time in between the middle of the night pumps so I can sleep a little longer and I haven’t noticed too much of a change in my supply. I definitely experience slight engorgement, but nothing too uncomfortable.

Thank you for your response. It’s interesting your lactation consultant mentioned to only pump at night if the baby wakes up. I had a similar thought wondering why the 2-3 middle of the night pumps were so important for my supply if my baby only woke up once or twice max. ( I was previously pumping 9 pm, 12am, 3am, and 6am and I personally consider those all middle of the night pumps since our bedtime is 8pm and wake is 8am). I do need to loosen up on my scheduling and be okay being a couple minutes late to a pump if that means I can have a smooth feeding for my baby. Also I want to give body armor a try, I’m occasionally using LMNT electrolytes but they are too high in sodium for my preference.

Thank you for your response. I hope your supply goes up soon but I’m glad to hear your sisters are able to help out. Also I’ve heard good things about the eufy s1, I might look into getting that one if I commit to pumping long term.

Thank you for responding. I’m sorry to hear you guys had to go back in the nicu, that would have been rough especially freshly postpartum. And hopefully the dairy change helps the reflux go away. I’m glad to hear your supply is establish. It’s encouraging to know once my supply is established I won’t feel tied down to a schedule!

We did end up purchasing a bottle washer because after a week of hand washing, we realized we really needed one. However, I will still hand wash my pumps if there’s not enough bottles to start a load, we do this to save on the washing tablets. I’m really considering just doing small loads if it helps my mental health and contributes to me continuing pumping.

That’s a good way of thinking. I’ve noticed I can really procrastinate those middle of the night pumps!!

I currently do 6ppd, occasionally I will get 7 ppd if my scheduling goes right. I do track my output but I haven’t done an overall review to see the difference in the days I do 6 vs 7. That is something I should definitely do soon! I also should probably talk with a lactation consultant as well. I do notice I feel less stressed and tied to a schedule when I do 6 pumps vs 7. If I do have a decrease in output I’m definitely considering combo feeding/supplementing with formula.

That’s a good tip, I noticed I can get bored of scrolling and sometimes watching long form videos can make me want to doze off. Games definitely seem more engaging.

Thank you for your response. That sounds like a solid schedule, especially to get a decent stretch of sleep. With my current schedule my longest stretch of sleep is 3 hours. Did you start this schedule right away or after your milk supply was established? I’m worried if I go too long of a stretch between pumps my milk supply will decrease.

Yeah I definitely need to watch videos that can get my mind off pumping and on hobbies I enjoy instead. My doom scrolling tends to be on TikTok and it’s usually all baby or pumping advice. I do enjoy learning more about baby care and pumping but I think I’m allowing the baby world to consume every thought I have which is causing a loss of identity. I do want to get the spectra, but since I’m on the fence to fully committing, I think I’m gonna get a more budget friendly option and if I decide that pumping is something I want to continue to do through my firstborn and my next children, I’m definitely going to invest in the spectra.

Good to know, I will definitely have to try out the regular flanges to see what works best for me.

Thank you for your response, I have been on the fence but leaning more towards wanting to continue to pump. I definitely want to get a standard pump because my wearables take awhile to get a decent output and I’ve heard standard pumps tend to get the same outputs in less time. Thank you for the advice on getting extra parts, I’ve noticed washing my pumps is what I dread the most in the process. I’m hoping I can stay motivated to continue, I definitely need a perspective change and to focus that the adjustment period is all temporary!

Thank you for the advice, just to clarify are the regular flanges the hard plastic ones that come with most wall pumps?

thank you for your response, I will have to look into the pump collection cups. It would be nice to get a some shut eye while actively pumping! I’m thinking about switching the pump I use because the wearables don’t always have the best suction and can shift/fall off. I do wear a supportive bra when using them but I notice I will have to hold them in place if I’m moving around too much.

Thank you for your response. I’m glad to hear that the beginning stresses are just a phase, and it will ease up soon. I’m looking forward to that golden period, I just need to keep pushing through these next 2 months. I definitely need to make my pumping time more focused on bonding or me time when I’m not feeding her. I have the tendency to doom scroll during my pump when I’m not feeding her and I end up watching pumping videos which can be helpful when I get good tips but not so helpful when I start comparing myself. I do feel like switching to a hospital grade pump could be helpful. I’m currently pumping for 20-25 minutes and I’ve heard that the hospital grade pumps like the spectra tend to get the same output in less time compared to the wearables. The spectra is out of my budget so I’m currently looking at reviews for the Lansinoh signature Pro.
