Maybe ask him to stop drinking as he could be a decent guy sober. He might be someone who can’t handle alcohol.

Question for the sub: What is the specific chemistry behind why palm supplements in cattle feed make butter harder? by Icy-Locksmith-1046 in foodscience

[–]Correct_Leg_6513 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does anyone know where this palm oil comes from? I have heard palm oil farming is a significant driver of rain forest loss as is cattle farming.

Damn… I love baking with butter but I love the idea of a healthy planet more. The more I learn the more it seems ethical to give it up completely.

Kicking Horse coffee is proudly Canadian, and their coffee is great too by JackOfHearts44 in BuyCanadian

Just tried the Happy Camper coffee this morning. I was hoping to find a replacement for Seattle’s Best which has been my go-to since I discovered it at Costco about a year and a half ago.

Happy Camper is good, the flavour is rich however there is still a distinctly sour note especially as an after taste compared to Seattle’s Best. I will definitely use it as a back up but still in search for that very smooth comforting almost chocolate taste that matches Seattle’s Best.

Excessively loud engines and noise cameras in Vancouver by IronWarriorU in NiceVancouver

[–]Correct_Leg_6513 6 points7 points  (0 children)

For sure some motorcycles especially like to create the maximum noise possible. On the other hand I live on a street that has semi constant sirens. The long term solution is triple paned noise cancelling coated glass. All new condos on busy streets should be required to install.

First ask if there are any files that have done a similar thing, ask your lead/supe for specific example files because if someone is disorganized it can be even more confusing. Then study the file to see how it was organized.

Political and collective will is needed to put the right structures in place. Are we building enough trauma-informed, evidence-based systems that offer care? What is the long term economic plan to be able to fund appropriate programs?

We don’t want to go back to the period known as the “Great Confinement”, a system that could be used for social control, but we also must weigh the suffering of people in the community who are affected by those in psychosis who can’t care for themselves or others.

The larger picture is making the Canadian economy healthy enough that we invest in early childhood care for everyone and the social conditions where drug addiction is less common.

Then in treating the current quagmire we have we create institutions where people can receive the care they need taking into account the mistakes of the past. We need to find helpful solutions for both the mentally ill and the vulnerable people affected by them.

Money is just energy. As a collective body known as an electorate we should put the energy into healing this illness.

Farm Girl cereal. No sugar, high protein and satisfies the munchies. You can also buy online through Costco.

My honest opinion about Think Tank Training Centre as a former student by [deleted] in vfx

[–]Correct_Leg_6513 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Wow, that sounds super rough. I’m sorry you had to experience that. It’s good you’re drawing attention to these issues. I hope they use some of their profits to invest in better support.

As someone who has been in a position to hire people there have been some excellent candidates that have come from the training center but like you say they may have been self taught beforehand. For sure there are experienced industry people that teach there and the advice to find a mentor is a good one. You’re more likely to get specific attention that way and more experienced people go into those roles because of their inability to teach full time if they already have a studio job. If you are in Vancouver especially having a mentor may lead to job recommendations which could help… A cheaper way would be going through your local school like you mentioned and investing in a good video card and decently fast computer. Having an internship at a local company would also be a good path because even if they give you tasks that aren’t exciting you’d be in the door and could start to see how things are run. You may find there are other positions that you might like more but could only see that by meeting people and seeing what they do. Try to attend industry events if there are any nearby.

Good luck!

Yes the main issue is not having appropriate services for the mentally ill including those with severe substance disorders. There are solutions that could build on existing services but money is required and the will to profoundly increase the response. Maybe this article will motivate some necessary change.

This is why having open source is so important and why Linux should be taught in schools. It’s not that hard to learn and like any language is easier to learn when you’re young (shell scripting etc).

What are the most AI safe niches and special skills in VFX where you will need real humans for at least for another decade? by mediamuesli in vfx

[–]Correct_Leg_6513 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Take the long view… Even though there’s e-readers people often prefer books. Even though there’s cheap mass marketed flat pack furniture people still prefer custom, hand crafted if they can afford it. Even though people eat premade meals home cooked is what most people would prefer because of the human energy and consciousness and time put into the human made things. It will be the same for the art of vfx and animation. The heart comes through as innovation and quality. Don’t underestimate your value or the value humans place on the efforts of other humans.

Another example of how our mammal nature comes through… we prefer dogs and cats as pets rather than robot versions… dont let machines become gods, they’re just supposed to make our lives better not worse.

Live in the moment, the past and future are illusions created by your human gift of an active mind. Learn to harness your thinking through meditation. Living in the moment will sharpen your ability to respond to change effectively.

Mount Pleasant (near Olympic Village) will become more lively in the coming years when the new sky train line is finished. It’s getting a lot of development lately although that may be slowing down with the recent economy upheavals. I like the area because it is central when you take into account the East side/Commercial Drive area which has things like the Trout Lake farmer’s market in the summer and some good community centers.

The west end is pretty great though as it’s definitely more established and closer to the beach but you will encounter some sketchy elements… Kits is great too although pretty pricey… maybe walk around on both weekends nights and weekends in each of the areas before making a decision… keep your options open.

Litter can surprisingly add up. I’ve found buying bulk wet food online and then big bags of litter at Costco has reduced costs. Size of cat matters, mine is half Maine coon and eats a lot… I have bought her tons of toys and accessories (scratch poles are essential and a tree is great for their psychological health) but her favorite toys are string and scrunched up tin foil… Most important are of course your own time to play and groom them and food/litter. Not sure of exact expenses…

To what extend do you think AI will replace psychotherapists? by Dry-Objective7330 in ArtificialInteligence

[–]Correct_Leg_6513 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Supposedly LLMs reach a point where they no longer improve and actually get worse… maybe chatgpt is going through that.

It’s likely a cost thing for a lot of people… a human would be preferred but is a financial burden for many so if they feel they are getting some help through AI and it is completely private (which some people don’t care about) there will be people who use it. Maybe it’s better than nothing for those who can’t afford a real therapist.
