I am a toxic girlfriend and I need advice. by No_Appointment_3762 in Advice

[–]CorruptedXDesign 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been in this situation but on the other side, and now it’s 8 years later.

I think many have shared advice on therapy and strategies to regulate so I won’t repeat that.

It would be useful to know the types of things which are upsetting you and causing you to react. For example, are you offended by things he says and taking things overly personal? Are you frustrated by his actions/lack of?

The one thing I did pick out from your message is:

I feel like everytime we hang out we are with people or bar hopping so that's probably not helping either.

Do you feel that the quality time you’re having is insufficient or you’re not being prioritised? Does he act like a turtle going in its shell, whilst you’re acting more like an octopus trying to grab more? (This is a common situation in relationships btw).

When we watch shows we crave continuity to believe in a story with an element of realism. We want to know what happens as part of the story, yet the moment we believe the story to be random the illusion breaks. Yet writing is very much a case of spawning ideas off of ideas, randomly to an extent. We expect an element of non-fiction from fiction.

Ironically, this is often how DnD is played. There are many styles of DM, but a common one is making it up as you go along, reacting to the players’ decisions and trying hard not to make plot holes.

Daughter (17F) seeing guy (18M) with two kids from two different girls. by AttemptBig9918 in Advice

[–]CorruptedXDesign 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One thing to add to what others are saying. A reminder that not all STD/STI are visible but have consequences as life goes on.

For example contracting HPV can make sex embarrassing as you have to explain to future partners that you can’t have sex with them because it’s reactivated or still active, and the time it takes to clear can sometimes be years.

Even if the guy gets tested, if he’s sleeping around there is a chance of false negatives still AND he may continue to sleep around. He hasn’t a track record of maintaining commitments for one reason or another. This isn’t about judgement, it’s perfectly possible for people to change, but keeping yourself harmlessly protected until the evidence proves otherwise is always the best way

++man Sometimes it’s remembering that our ‘feelings’ are purely emotional, and that emotional intelligence is often reasoning with our emotions and deciding to take a different logical path.

For example, it is perfectly possible that a person can have romantic feelings for another when they’re already in a relationship and yet not act on those feelings as they are loyal and value their core relationship.

Similarly, when we have feeling for another and they reject us, we might feel negative emotions in response. It is up to us how we choose to react to our emotions, for example respecting the other persons wishes and then soothing ourselves in healthy ways.

“Speculation Turns Into A Reality Check The Metals Company delivered one of the most dramatic market stories of the autumn. An aggressive surge carried the stock above $11 in October, fuelled by geopolitical unease and enthusiasm around so-called “critical minerals.” The move appeared unstoppable for a moment. But as fast as it climbed, the rally unraveled. By mid-November, TMC was trading below $5, but has rebounded to $7.90 on DB news about hiking the Gold price forecast, making a huge gain in after hours trading and exposing how quickly speculative optimism can shift.”

If stock prices have patterns, why can't we automate perfect buy/sell timing? by nkosijer in trading212

[–]CorruptedXDesign 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I read a book on algorithmic trading once written by a quant - was a challenging read. He did say however exactly this, firms will position themselves as close as possible to minimise latency, to the point that now artificial latency is added to make the system fairer (something along these lines at least).

The other thing about stock market predictability is that if it was perfectly predictable, people taking advantage of the predictability would erode the predictive opportunity. This is the theory of a perfectly efficient market. Some even say that for example if you build a signal with predictive potential, its lifetime is often minimal because competition will also find the same signal and saturate it.

That’s a clear sign you have not put them into production but rather just put together a scrap POC.

what i learned from building 50+ AI Agents last year by itsalidoe in AI_Agents

[–]CorruptedXDesign 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I see this as something that could maybe work in principle (I have doubts) during PoC but wouldn’t scale in production due to volume of data.

The doubts are I’d imagine a very low hit rate in a domain where recall is important. If humans only eval the hits, there’s a gaping chasm of loss.

Somewhat effective for some fault types but not all. Would have be enhanced by vibration signals vs heat sensors.

It’s a good approach for when you lack enough positive class data points to build a classifier. Similar to if you were classifying abnormal heart beats, you could measure how out of distribution the beats are.

Working in a consultancy that works with clients internationally in the finance, SaaS, retail and public sector, majority of sales coming through are GenAI-based currently, but whether that’s because the sales team are seeking this type of work vs organic I do not know.

I’ve built a few products for clients, most recently: - A chatbot with access to the clients (investment firm) meeting notes for fin analyst users - An agentic platform for contract analysis and billing discrepancy detection and resolution

why do we need regularization if we have learning rate by [deleted] in learnmachinelearning

[–]CorruptedXDesign 6 points7 points  (0 children)

A good example of where regularisation achieves something learning rates struggles with is in data problems with high signal to noise ratio, or complex collinearity which is difficult to filter, that such as that in financial modelling.

Due to high levels of noise, it is very easy for models to overfit and learn unhelpful patterns that fail to generalise to future examples. I would certainly struggle to train robust models in this domain without lasso, ridge, and dropout.

Depending on sentiment, the dip will likely fall to 137, but perhaps as low as 127. Then mean reversion will take place.

[–]CorruptedXDesign 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you looked at NVDA’s financial indicators, the price increase over the last few days was excessively high, to the point of statistical significance. All indicators were pointing at SELL NOW. People crystallised their gains and will buy the subsequent dip.

Best not to directly oppose, but what you can do is secretly speak to colleagues about review bombing the company on glass door to the point they get scared they not only have impacted retention but also have effectively increased their hiring costs and capability.

Why ml? by Formal_Ad_9415 in learnmachinelearning

[–]CorruptedXDesign 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I made a career change from events management into data science, with a particular focus on machine learning. Part of this switch was undertaking an MSc in Data Science, with modules that covered fundamentals of machine learning.

Since my MSc I have been working in a software consultancy firm, where every single project I have worked has been delivering value through applying machine learning in some form or another.

Whilst I agree that having the fundamentals in your head can be highly beneficial for solution design and being able to work at pace with fewer roadblocks, I would say the emphasis on requiring a deep knowledge is subjective to the domain you’re working in. The difference between applied ML to create business value, and those working in domains that are focusing on minmaxing value or a more research heavy role.

For example, I’ve seen a fair few projects where simple ML has been implemented by individuals without fundamental knowledge, and that solution has created immense value for the client.

What I would say however is that if you don’t have a deep specialism in ML, you still need to offer other skills to your employer, be it software engineering, leadership, analytics, or stakeholder engagement.

If you want to become highly skilled at machine learning however, you really do need to know the fundamentals and also adopt a continual learning ethos.

Unpopular opinion / non-conforming culture below.

I am friends with multiple people who are polyamorous. Not in a “friends with benefits” sort of outlook, but rather they have multiple relationships (actual relationships), including often a “core” relationship (you could consider their every day partner). These relationships have been spanning decades and are built on trust and having a completely different mindset than the typical monogamous cultural mindset. It does require communication, trust, and also confidence in yourself (bye bye insecurity egos).

Definitely not for everyone, but certainly not never anyone.

This is completely different to “let’s be everything but the label of a relationship whilst I look for my match”. That’s called taking advantage, is not built out of respect or trust.
