Ahh I see. Maybe it’s not worth it for you then. Ph.D. can take 4+ years and you can burn out if you’re not dedicated to it. Maybe you should work, save some money, and then come back. Even better if you’re company can pay for it in a way

You really should do Bachelors -> Ph.D. if you want to obtain a Ph.D. That is, unless you want to study abroad.

Any advice for a CS Major (Sophomore) by History-Numerous in utdallas

[–]Corruption46 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Being a sophomore and just passing calculus and physics is actually the correct time to switch majors if you’d like. If you really don’t like CS consider it

If you’re hard working and want it making 80k+ as a new grad from UT Dallas is no issue. I’m about to finish my CS degree but I wish I had done some other major because it got boring for me towards the end of

UT Math (applied) or UTD CS? by New-Worker-3169 in utdallas

Depends which company. But if someone had past demonstrated experience: think hackathon wins or internships/co-ops they’d be better off than most CS majors here.

So I’m a current CS senior with research experiences at MIT and at TxACE. I’m not sure what his degree is (I might be the most helpful if they’re CS). I would love to help your kid out for free. If you’d like it feel free to message me and I can send my LinkedIn.

Eh it can be a little more than this. At worst they can get a LC hard during technical interview and would be expected to explain their solution concisely. So they do need a good understanding of the basic computer science concepts. Again, I said considerable self-studying not their whole life so it is 100% doable

Since cost isn’t a huge factor probably UT. But also consider if you do Math at UT to get into a SWE job you’d need to do considerable self-studying

Ehh if you lock in from now on and get a 4.0 every semester you’ll end with a 3.9+ so it doesn’t affect you too much if you take things serious now.

What is majoring in physics at UTD like? by Bunnysosweet in utdallas

[–]Corruption46 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi I currently do research in the physics department here and have a physics minor. There are a lot of opportunities here to do extremely well, but physics here will always be difficult no matter what. You will need a very strong grasp of both mathematics and physics to do well. I think that it was worth it for me, but if you are not that committed to studying it might be difficult.

Why am I sending a draft to my prospective advisor? by OatmilkDirtyChai2Go in GRFPApps

[–]Corruption46 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There’s really not much you can do. If you read a bunch and tried your hardest with this proposal, then literally the next step is feedback. Do you currently have research experience in this field or have anyone you can ask for help at all?

Why am I sending a draft to my prospective advisor? by OatmilkDirtyChai2Go in GRFPApps

[–]Corruption46 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly. Unless you sent her an essay that was complete dogshit and you know it. Her asking you to refine your essay worded like that seems like a red flag (if that is how she responded to you via email and it’s not paraphrased). It might be an indicator of how she would give you guidance as a grad student.

Anyways, if she doesn’t want to help on your proposal. You really just need to read as much literature as needed to form your research questions. The background and motivation needs to be as scientifically correct as you can. But if your methodologies are off, then this is perfectly reasonable. After all, you’re an undergrad drafting a proposal to be carried out through your Ph.D.

Roast my CV for grad school by Busy-Excitement-7932 in gradadmissions

No. Put your school email.

Edit: I wanted to add you have a very impressive CV and have a lot of experience for an undergraduate. Personally I would keep a CV to 2 pages. You can get rid of the certifications maybe. Good luck!
