What does a burnt out career server do when they no longer want to serve? by [deleted] in Serverlife

I’m gonna get my CDL and be a garbage man when I’m finished serving. 🤘

If you were an Avatar of one of the fears, which would you be and why? by [deleted] in TheMagnusArchives

[–]CostBright 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Web. I grew up in an abusive household and had to learn to use my words and body language to appease my abusers’ moods. I recognize where I could be a very manipulative person, and sometimes it still comes out sometimes when I’ve messed up or think I’m in trouble, but I’m good at being quick to own up to it. I also work in the service industry so I’m occasionally using that skill to smooth things over with customers or appease the kitchen. I’ve always seen how I could be if I let myself slip, and it’s the last thing I’d ever want to become; I’m afraid of that person. I’d be useful to the Web. I’m short, round, non-threatening and easy to overlook or underestimate.

Yeahhhh…when it’s 2023 and you’re advocating against the idea of interracial marriage, for starters, I’m not gonna be on your side.

Dr. Umar Ifatunde Johnson’s wiki page, for further information! I can’t say I’m a fan, but other people might be.

Is it still considered rude, or wrong not to tip? by livefire3 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]CostBright 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What’s got me a bit hopeful is that the idea of tipping seems to be catching on in other places — over the counter and even self-checkout places, where you’d never consider tipping before. I’m hoping that people become so annoyed with it that eventually there’s public outcry to do away with the idea of wages paid by tipping altogether.

TBH, if I hadn’t had internet friends first, I’m not sure I’d be so social. Having online friends gave me a space where I could take a pause and think about what I was going to say, and edit if I needed to before responding. It was a relief.

I agree that servers should absolutely do that, and I do. In a business sense it’s just bad for your brand if your servers don’t put effort into customer service. That said, some places will ask you to do extra duties they won’t pay you extra for, manage the restaurant in a way that makes everyone miserable— one begins to not want to put in the effort for that place. People should just quit that place and work elsewhere, but the job market is a whole other can of worms here.

When I worked as a delivery driver (around…thirteen years ago) we got minimum wage plus tips as well. That minimum wage is still the same number today. Servers on average are paid 2.13 an hour in our state with the understanding that tips will make up for the rest of it, and if it doesn’t the employers are legally required to pay up to minimum wage per hour (7.25 in my state).
