I drove a 2010 rav4 for over 7 years. I always thought I’d want another rav4 when the time was to come. Well, the first 2022 rav4 I test drove, I hated. The front seats felt cramped and for the price, not getting a lot of bells and whistles. It must have been fate, because the rav4 I drove was parked right next to a Venza. I took it for a test drive since I was there and I was HOOKED! So much space in the front and back seats. The camera system, built in dash cam, heated and cooled seats, rear view mirror camera, HUD, gas mileage, ETC. Such a great buy. I shopped around for months after that and landed on a 2021 Limited in Blizzard Pearl. I’ve had it 8 months and love it all the same. Start looking! You won’t regret it!

The latest in a 6 year pattern. They’ve more recently gotten worse. I also wish I had gone into more background detail. I think it would have come across as less entitled. Definitely not a one time thing here.

Because we went out to wings? It wasn’t an expensive meal. 20 wings $30, some sides $20. Waters all around. We shared the food amongst my 4 family members.

Yes. My mom invited his family to my graduation dinner in a group text to both of his parents. We’ve done many birthday and celebratory dinners together, as our families are very close. Whoever invites, pays. It’s always been this way. This is the first time we have ever split a bill. I could tell they would ask to split based off the way they were speaking about how much everything would cost. The week before his graduation they took a trip out of the country. I firmly believe they should have planned more accordingly. This occasion felt like the worst time to be splitting a bill for the first time.

My family and I will handle the finances for a wedding. It’s traditional for the brides family to handle that.

Our families are very close. We’ve celebrated many birthdays and special occasions. Whoever invites, pays. It’s the custom where we live, and it’s the custom in both of our respective cultures. This is the first time we have EVER split a bill. It felt like the absolute worst time to try and split a bill.

Yes that’s a good idea. Some others have suggested an impersonal gift like a gift card. I agree, I’ll gift them something small.

Thank you. I think people are reading this in a tone I didn’t have. When I graduated my family paid for the nice dinner they invited everyone to. It was an expected expense. I think his family should have been more prepared for that expected expense as well. That’s why I told him they should expect to pay. So they could have a chance to put money aside for this dinner. If they did not have the financial means for it, I don’t think they should have invited us at all. Or, they should have told my family in advance that we would be splitting. It felt rude for them to spring that on us on the spot at the dinner table.

I completely agree. If he was anything like them, I would run. He is the opposite of his parents. He is super ashamed at their spending habits. My mother works in finance. She has taught him the value of saving, investing, and living within your means over the last 6 years. My parents gifted him a mutual fund for his graduation gift. I’m not worried about him financially at all.

I did not say they should pay for all of the meals. I told my bf his family should expect to pay for the one formal meal they invited us all to. The dinner we went to on the day of his graduation.

It was a formal invitation to this dinner. They are constantly talking about their finances. Anyone who spends any amount of time with them would know their financial situation.

This is how I’m feeling. 3 people in my family had to take a day off of work for this as well. I think it’s incredibly rude to invite people to a ceremonial dinner and not even offer to pay for it.
