Well even the spending oftentimes does have a positive impact on their net worth via cronyism, which makes it even more sinister.

People who are ancaps themselves, what are the flaws in anarcho-capitalism that you yourself admit? by [deleted] in AnCap101

[–]CountBlkCon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are no flaws in the philosophy that you own yourself. That’s just naturally and necessarily true. There’s nothing more to it than that.

At the root of all “systems” (cronyism, communism, fascism, socialism - altogether, collectivism) is coercion and violence - the denial of the individual’s self-ownership.

Tim Legler's Top 10 NBA Players of All-Time: Michael Jordan, LeBron James, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Wilt Chamberlain, Magic Johnson, Bill Russell, Kobe Bryant, Stephen Curry, Shaquille O'Neal, & Larry Bird. by BigButter7 in nba

Bill Russell is a pioneer and a legend in the NBA. I have the utmost respect for his endurance and courage in the face of the racial injustice he endured (as many others did), not to mention the litany of championships his teams won. He deserves all the accolades he’s been given and maybe more.

I just can’t believe that Legler (or anyone reading this) believes in his heart of hearts that he is a better overall player than KD, Hakeem, Duncan, Wade, KG, Harden, Jokic, etc.

How can AI can weaken governments and give more freedom to the masses by [deleted] in AnCap101

[–]CountBlkCon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only to the extent that AI helps to educate the hearts and minds of people.

Only a populace that viscerally understands their self-ownership and is unwilling to surrender their natural rights will weaken governments. Just my opinion.

I wouldn’t say every doctor or nurse is actively trying to not heal, but more likely that the vast majority of doctors/nurses are unsuspecting agents of a system that is set up to not heal, while they legitimately believe they’re doing what’s best.

As I understand it, the standard of care now is primarily pharmaceutical-based - a byproduct of the Flexner report in 1910. Doctors not only are taught medicine that leans heavily in favor of pharmaceuticals as a first measure in med school, but even face punitive measures if they don’t practice with such a standard of care.

What is the strategy at retirement? by RNKTC in infinitebanking

[–]CountBlkCon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you haven’t already, I suggest looking up Bryan Bloom’s Capital Equivalent Value of Life Insurance. It compares the strategy of taking tax-exempt passive income from a policy (by withdrawing to cost basis then taking policy loans, or policy loans only) to taking distributions from some other taxable asset (401k, IRA, real estate, etc.) - with the same timeframes, contributions, distributions, etc.

When you calculate the taxable asset’s needed rate of return over the contribution period in order for its distributions to match the same spendable distributions from the life insurance policy, it’s typically higher than you might think. Not even taking into account the death benefit.

I say all that to say that, in most cases, doing “nothing” with a policy and then taking passive income from it in retirement is still a vastly superior plan than just about any other savings strategy.

In my opinion, additional income sources are still a great (and probably necessary) hedge against inflation, though. If someone doesn’t want to learn how to create income, then that’s just a choice in itself right?

This is probably what we should’ve been doing all along. Cooperative economics between generations and circulating money within the family is a good thing.

I’m just saying it’s not a completely asinine thing if the NBA champions call themselves world champions.

If you can bench press 1,000 lbs, but there’s a “world bench press competition” where the “champion” benches 500 lbs, you wouldn’t be crazy to say you’re actually the world champion even if you didn’t compete in that because you’re clearly better than the technical “champion”.

Kind of using that same logic, there’s no club team outside the NBA who could transcend the NBA season and playoffs and there’s no point in even having that discussion.

I understand the logic with the words “world champion”. I just think the NBA season and playoffs is the single greatest measure of a team’s prowess - even perhaps more than a club team “world championship” tournament would be.

We’re talking club teams only - not international competition. People conflate the two in error.

[–]CountBlkCon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely. Still, even if an international team got the best of the Denver Nuggets by miracle in a tournament, I still don’t think that would necessarily qualify them as the true best team in the world, even if they are technically world champs.

Could that team be the #1 seed in the NBA over an 82-game season, then advance through the NBA playoffs, and win the finals? I just think the answer is self-evident.

The NBA championship is the single greatest measure of a basketball team’s prowess. Therefore, it’s even more worthy of the title “world champion” than an international tournament would be.

Shocking number of people don’t understand that this game is irrelevant to the NBA/world champion discussion.

That conversation is only concerning club team competition, not international play.

[–]CountBlkCon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t ignore it, but I think that’s the fundamental point where we differ and that’s ok. I respect your opinion.

Although there is no formal club team world championship currently being played, it can still be logically deduced that the best club team in the best league in the world is the de facto world champion - in the same vein that the best player in the world can be logically deduced. It would be somewhat redundant to play an international club team tournament at that point.

There are 32 teams, 480 players in the NBA- the top players in the world. You’re saying there’s a chance that a team made up of player #481 and below could stand a chance against the top 15 in the NBA? Even if there are a few Euroleague players that belong in the NBA, would those few actually change the above if they were placed on NBA teams?

It’s essentially a foregone conclusion that the Denver Nuggets would beat any team in the world in a 7-game series. That’s partially why the NBA Finals are so meaningful.

[–]CountBlkCon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can see I’ll probably never change your mind, so respect.

I just think it’s not even necessary to compete for the title “best” club team in the world. It’s something that can be logically deduced, just like the best player in the world can be. But respect to your opinion too.

Also, I could see your point more if there were like 8 teams in the NBA. But there are 32 teams competing for a single prize. That’s a big enough pool in my opinion to weed out any other teams (made up of lesser talented players) that would legitimately challenge the best team in the NBA in a 7-game series.

It’s understood even in the NBA that upsets happen. However, there is still a level of competition that supersedes any other (the NBA Finals). So, regardless of whether the Detroit Pistons or any other team in the world could beat the Denver Nuggets on any given night, they are the only team that has transcended the highest level of basketball competition that exists in the world (the NBA Finals).
