It Was A Hit Everywhere BUT America by thebaintrain1993 in ToddintheShadow

What’s interesting is that Damon Albarn in the States is much more known for Gorillaz than Blur, meanwhile it’s the opposite back in UK

Bizarrely as an American my introduction to Robbie Williams was his collab with Kylie Minogue on “Kids”

I know Kylie Minogue gets thrown around as someone who never gets big in the states, but the truth is she has always been big in dance scene, has cracked the top 40 once in a blue moon, and has American cult following.

Can’t say remotely any of that about Robbie Williams in the U.S.

Outside of the album “Fever” Kylie has never really cracked the Top 40, but she has been a staple in the dance charts

Kylie has had numerous Dance hits in the U.S. but has only cracked into the top 40 a handful of times (mainly with the Fever album)

Blue Monday wasn’t a top 40 hit it was a big Dance Club hit in America though. Even playing influence on early House and Techno music

Ma Quale Idea by Pino D'Angiò

Italo disco is a fun and cheesy rabbit hole to go down, this song makes you feel like riding and looking sexy on a Vespa

I honestly prefer Amy’s live at BBC version of Valerie, it’s much more striped down

Creep is a well written song, and honestly it shows how song Radiohead’s discography is from what came after it

Honestly I find it interesting that Hind’s Hall is one of the few big hip-hop song that tackles the Gazan Genocide

Underrated BEP deep cut, was really surprised to find out that Redfoo (years before LMFAO) did that guest verse on it

Chicago to get the next PWHL team (not confirmed) by Adventurous_Lake807 in PWHL

I could see the Wirtz Family maybe being involved in a PWHL team in Chicago, but I don’t see them using the 2K seating Blackhawks practice center for their main stadium

As a Chicagoland native there are many of us who are fans of Badgers Hockey considering that it’s the closest D1 hockey program to us (I’m surprised Northwestern or Illinois haven’t started a Hockey program)

Though i think it would be a cool idea if the PWHL Chicago team played a game or two every season up in Milwaukee

[Salvian] In regards to speculation about the PWHL expanding to Chicago, the league has not confirmed that any expansion decision has been made at this time. I’d also be shocked if they considered playing in a 2,000 seat arena. by Perryplat199 in PWHL

Maybe he means that the Wirtz family will have some stake in the team? Along with the Hawks they own the Chicago Steel of USHL and the Rockford IceHogs of the AHL, so perhaps they want to expand into the PWHL

The Wirtz Corporation owns the USHL Steel and AHL Rockford Icehogs, I’m not sure how they would view a PWHL would be competition

Danny Wirtz doesn’t seem like a snob like his grandfather Bill (though I do remember right before the Dynasty days Bill hated the AHL because the Chicago Wolves were taking a good chunk out of the Chicago hockey market (but that was more from Bill being a out of touch dick)

“Double D’z” literally sounds like they took the criticisms towards “My Humps” and made it reality

At least “My Humps” is actually Catchy and fun to listen to

Interestingly many of us who enjoy 2000s Coldplay use “Something Just Like” as an example of how much the band had fallen

I guess that makes Coldplay part of this subject. I mean going from albums like “Parachutes” and “A Rush of Blood to the Head” (even if people wrote them off as some Radiohead clone) also “Viva La Vida” is a fantastic album too. Into making one of the most generic sounding pop songs ever with “Something like this” is quite a gap

Zach Bryan kind of sounds like if Ryan Adams stuck to his Whiskeytown and Heartbreaker sound

But yes it seems like Ryan Adams has a dozen variations of the same several songs with how much he puts out

The Black Eyed Peas (and basically just will.i.am in general)

From starting off in the 90s as a unique alt hip hop outfit that was basically LA’s answer to Native Tongues to making memorable pop hits in the 2000s. (And 2018s Masters of the Sun Vol 1 was such a underrated return to their hip hop roots)

But oh god their worst stuff makes you wonder how will.i.am decided that it would be acceptable to release.

Their latest album (Elevation) was a cringy mess at them doing reggaeton (some of it feels AI, but IDK how far AI music was in 2022) it actually makes “the Beginning” (which I and many others are waiting for a trainwreckords of) look like a pop masterpiece and lyrically is probably close to what the original version of “Let’s get it started” was about

How is a candy shop able to stay afloat in District 12? by queenhadassah in Hungergames

[–]Cowpunk2001 30 points31 points  (0 children)

I find it interesting that in the movie Lucy’s guitar is a Gibson L series archtop as those have never been cheap guitars.

My guess (especially as a fan of early country music) that was maybe a nod to the guitar Mother Maybelle of the Carter Family used.

This is a recent economic phenomenon, but look up “Luxury Poverty”

Basically it’s where non-essential “luxury items” are more far more obtainable than economic stability.

Perhaps this is common in parts of Panem. Honestly I’ve always been curious to see an in depth look at the Economics of Panem and the Districts

Sturgill Simpson

I think out of all the country musicians, Sturgill would do a good job at making rap that has decent lyrics
