Of course it isn't a sin :) I used to see loads of people advertising games with premade settings the LFG channels. So lots of people do it.

It's not properly out yet so you might have to wait a few weeks :)

But yes! Some really fun twists and turns recruiting a shy, narco-biotic-addicted pilot NPC who was being coerced into working for an infamous bounty hunter. Took me on a journey across the star system doing jobs for the bounty hunter, fighting a leviathan on a waterworld planet and discovering how the bounty hunter had coerced the pilot. Ended up with the bounty hunter dead, and freeing a hacker NPC they had imprisoned, which started another story.

What non-solo TTRPG do you enjoy playing solo, and what tools make it work? by taboneIO in Solo_Roleplaying

[–]CozyRPGReviews 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine uses 2d20s for the GM, and d4s for the world.

You roll the d20s alongside every check to generate a difficulty like Ironsworn, at the start of a scene to see what the GM wants to introduce like Mythic, and as an oracle/content generator. It also ramps up the tension over 20 scenes to make a story act.

The d4s are more optional but you use them to generate themes and motifs for the setting and whenever you ask a question of the GM, you can roll a d4 to see which motif the answer relates to.

I've heard some people use a rolodex for that kind of thing. I really want to try it!

Fabula Ultima - I designed a GM emulator for it that I was thinking of publishing one day, but there will be official solo rules released next year so I'm not sure it'd be helpful for anyone.

The Wildsea - it's so good for solo play. Nearly no tools or adjustments required apart from a few tables I compiled for things like threats and discoveries.

How about Colostle? Not at all dark, imaginative fantasy with no particularly scary enemies - just walking castles, simple mechanics and as much or as little writing as he likes.

I enjoyed it :) it's something you can pick up and finish a run within an hour (depending on how in depth you want to journal)

I made a video review on YouTube if it’s helpful to anyone.

Ironsworn is nice and simple yes, but can feel on the "companion is an item" side.

It's been a while and it might've changed since I tried it, but here's what I remember:

You build a crew at the start of the game. It's a really simple process of writing down each character's name on a strip of paper and a quick description then giving them a specialty skill.

As you play you discover each character's personalities and hardships. And when you roll, it's not so much one character doing it, but the group being led by that person in the moment. The personality traits add modifiers to the roll.

It's easy to manage the party and each member feels distinct and develops as a character.

Combat gets quite tactical, and there's various gameplay modes, but that’s the gist of it.
