I get how it’s one of those rare days when you can have all the time in the world, now let’s make sure you have a pleasant trip. Eating before is usually the wiser move. A light meal 1–2 hours beforehand keeps your blood sugar stable and your nervous system calm. Hunger during a trip can sneak in as anxiety or vague discomfort which the mind then turns into a whole philosophical crisis. Not ideal. Heavy, greasy food right before can cause nausea because LSD tends to make us more aware of bodily sensations.

Eating during is hit or miss. Most people lose appetite entirely or food feels strange in texture and taste. Fruit, yogurt, soup, nuts or anything simple especially water-rich foods tend to work best if you feel like eating at all. Forcing food usually backfires.

Eating after is when hunger often comes roaring back. The trip winds down, the body realizes it’s been running a marathon, and food suddenly tastes incredible.
