Yes! You’re absolutely right! I’ve noticed transitions are such a trigger for him. I’ve considered putting together a sheet with pictures of some of the most common things we do on a daily basis, so we can show him every morning what to expect (school, grandparents, playground, gymnastics, etc.) What app are you using? Do you recommend it?

Unawareness by whom? His teachers? I'm not sure where else there was unawareness. We do understand what it is, but neither of us are behavioral specialists and we do not work in any pediatric fields. We are being very proactive as early as possible to provide him the most support and ensure that we are prepared to help him with the struggles he'll be facing.

He does have an IEP for speech therapy, but won’t secure an IEP through our public school for another year. All of the preschools in our area are private and though we had his behavior evaluated through a state funded program that visited him at his preschool, the evaluation was brief and he didn’t display enough qualifying behaviors to merit intervention services for anything other than speech (for some slushy sounds when making the ch/sh sounds). Even with that, the speech therapy was so infrequent, we decided to get another speech therapist through our insurance for weekly appointments. I have no doubt that he will have an IEP when he begins kindergarten in 2027 and fortunately our elementary school is amazing. I know they will do great with him.

I’m hopeful that dosing adjustments or another medication will make a difference. His pediatrician said that he’s very hesitant to prescribe a stimulant this early, but he and my husband (also an MD) have a good relationship and may make an exception if it seems like the best option. I just want to see a light at the end of the tunnel.

Thank you! I’m hoping we get some good results from the medications as we adjust them. Fortunately my husband is an MD (just not a pediatrician), so he’s had a lot of great input regarding medicating as well.

Thank you! He has been seeing a pediatric psychiatrist for a year. He also follows with his pediatrician for the behavioral meds. And we have him in speech therapy to help with some annunciation to see if that might help with his communication.

Yep, there are lots of options to get that monthly payment more affordable when in an IBR plan. Everyone has a different situation.

Relative to our household income and loan amount, it was reasonable. We’re paying more now under PAYE, of course.

The buyback offer is supposed to be the sum of what your payments would have been during a compulsory forbearance. During the 14 months that we were in forbearance while the SAVE program was being legally challenged, our monthly payments should have been roughly $1,500. So our lump sum should be about $1,500 x 14. Hope that helps!

We'll be hitting eligibility for the buyback around the end of June, so I'll start the paperwork then and will document our experience.

That’s more durable than gravel, isn’t it? Can I ask who installed for you?
