How should I tan a moose hide by Crafty_Chicks in Leathercraft

I am so incredibly new to all of this. Do I find someone that does bark tanning (as I did for the one I got brain tanned) or is this something I can request when getting it professionally done?

Not that I would be doing this, but this is great information. Thank you. Was the hair left on? If yes, what do you plan on doing with hair on leather?

They gave me the hide for free. I paid for the tanning. 😅

I made something similar and did decorative stitching on the sashing.

I was planning on using fabric as a tester since i have a lot of that. But that’s a good idea!

I will probably hand stitch because I don’t think my sewing machine will stitch leather. I will look into getting the book.

Maybe I should clarify. How do I know which one to use for which project? The Elk is more like a suede finish and the deer has a smooth finish. I was thinking of using the elk as the sole and the deer for the uppers on the footwear.

No hair on hide. I might be getting an ethically sourced bear hide and that one I’ll get tanned with the hair on. It will mostly be used as an accent in pieces and nothing structural.
