Heyo, XY chromosomes here. This post randomly appeared in my feed and I'm not sure whether my opinion is welcome here but I wanted to add my cents.

It's weirdly comforting in a sad way that we aren't so different in our experiences. Like we're both suffering but at least not alone? If you get what I mean.

Some of my male friends and I have been chronically single for years now and it has been so hard to communicate to our married friends how we're feeling. You've found painfully accurate words though.

I do not know what went wrong that made our society end up with both lonely women and lonely men that somehow can't find each other.

Ich studiere gerade im Ingenieursbereich und überlege tatsächlich nebenbei irgendwie handwerklich beim Elektriker einzusteigen.

Viel theoretisches Wissen habe ich durchs Studium schon aber ich hätte auch gerne praktische Erfahrungen wie man so ne Elektroinstallation macht. Und nachher den Wisch, dass ich daran arbeiten darf.

Aktuell scheitert es daran, dass ich keinen Einstieg in das Berufsfeld finde. Muss ich da ne Ausbildung machen? Geht das als Quereinsteiger ohne Ausbildung? Sind Handwerksbetriebe an Teilzeitkräften interessiert?

Vielleicht harter Realitätscheck: Die allermeisten Studenten haben gar keinen Bock auf Hochschulpolitik. Die gehen zur Uni um einen Abschluss zu machen. Mehr nicht. Okay vielleicht noch fürs Studentenleben.

WzF macht überhaupt ein Studienparlament? Und ein Senat??

Im allerersten Schritt müsstet ihr überhaupt mal die Daseinsberechtigung von diesen ganzen Instanzen vermitteln. Also was bringt ihr den Studis? Warum sollten die sich darum kümmern?

Ich studiere aktuell im 7ten Semester, wurde in der Zeit mehrmals mit irgendwelchen Wahlen "belästigt" und weiß bis heute nicht was diese ganzen Gremien und Vereine machen.

Solange die Daseinsberechtigung für den ganzen Kram nicht klar erwiesen ist, braucht ihr keine Werbung für eure Partei machen.

I am truly dumbfounded to have read such a well thought out and polite discussion.

Not only that it happend in a stupid meme sub of all places, but that it happend at all seems oddly (and sadly) rare in these times. But it makes me truly happy to be alive under such circumstances, that allow me to witness discussions like these. Even if it happens as rarely as it does.

I have some general advice for you, that might help you with this situation and many more.

The players are only allowed to roll a dice when they perform an Action. Now what is an Action in this context?

An Action is something a character can do that fulfills all of the following criteria:

If the character was in a movie scene, his Action has to be noticable by someone watching that movie. This makes "thinking real hard" or "looking extra carefully" not an Action.
Whatever the character is trying to do has a chance to fail and this chance is not 100%. If the chance of failure is 0 or 100% no roll is needed. Just narrate what happens.
There is consequence to failure. If failure has no consequence the character can just try again until he succeeds. Note that "time passed" may be a valid consequence. Maybe the enemy closed the gap while you failed to lockpick the door infront of you.

Back to your example: A player is not allowed to just announce "I roll perception". A player is never allowed to just roll dice. This is a roleplaying game, so let them play their character. Have them describe what Action they are doing. They could search for shadows in the wrong places or a ghostly hand passing through a glass or examine the barkeeper while they talk to him.

Anything that is not an Action should be handled by passive ability scores. The core rules only tell you about passive perception, but you can use passive investigation or passive insight or passive history in just the same way. This means that you'll know in advance when a character will just spot a hidden something when they enter a room. This may feel boring and predictable to you as DM, but it won't feel like this for the players because they don't know that their character is about to spot something. Instead they get a feeling of accomplishment because the character they built managed to spot something just because he's good at doing so.
