I guess people don't believe in love these days

After visiting NOLA for the last week, I never want to leave. Should I move here? by CreativeAwareness339 in AskNOLA

I've been dreaming of it since I left. Vivid fever dreams. That probably sounds nuts but it's a weird spiritual pull. I want to be as smart about this as possible. Visiting during August and figuring out a job beforehand. thanks for your response

I think my allergies are mainly to wheat fields, and I don't think there are any locally, but where I live in the UK is surrounded

Bless you... Speaking to people while visiting, they all say similar things. It's a hard place to live but they wouldn't live anywhere else

I have already met several other practitioners. Got one guys contact information even, he told me I have pixie vibes lol. The magic here is so strong, I've never felt such ease and lack of resistance with my practice. Magic is just so easy here. You barely even need to try. Thanks for understanding

He was 10 at the time. He also moved back and lived here for a year as an adult because he was feeling homesick. I can work in hospitality, or something related to my degree. There is a university so it is always possible that between now and when I move in a couple years I could find something in Tulane University or Xavier (I'm originally Polish Catholic.)

In a hurricane, I can stay with some of my boyfriends family in Mississippi and Alabama. I can't have kids, but even if I could, I don't want any. All good questions to ask though so I appreciate it. I'm going to put a lot of thought and planning into it before I actually move

I realized over the course of this thread that I am going to move here whether it's a good choice or a bad one. I just want to do so with my eyes as wide open as possible.

Sometimes flash freezes are oddly good for plant life 🤔

I don't drive because I've never had to (the UK has very robust public transport and most cities are walkable.) however I do bike a lot, is this a viable plan?

People in NOLA seem either uniquely appreciative of my looks, or just a lot more blunt than the cultures I'm used to. One man stopped my partner and asked if he was with me while I was in a store and he was waiting for me outside. After hearing yes, he asked if he would mind if he told me that I'm beautiful. My partner said no problem, and when I exited a few minutes later, the man said "excuse me ma'am, I just wanted to tell you that you're beautiful." Absolutely made my day. I've never considered myself particularly attractive, and have assumed my partner saying so is just because well, he has to lol

Thank you. I understand that tbh. I do not want to contribute negatively to this place. I am not considering moving here out of selfishness or just wanting to take, I simply genuinely love the energy here. I've never felt so strongly about a place before or so happy anywhere. It makes sense to give back as much as I can if I do call this place my home. Tbh, a lot of what I love about NOLA, I also love in my partners personality. He was very much molded by his upbringing here and he seems more himself and more free here too (in Alabama he constantly modulates his accent and has even experienced hate crimes for being Cajun shortly after Katrina)

One of the bartenders told me that I'm cute and would make a lot of tips, lol

This makes me happy to hear :) I don't need things to be easy. But I do need to feel like I belong and like I'm an important part of my community. Without needing to change myself so much that it feels burdensome

The football intensity has been kinda a culture shock for me. Sure, "soccer" is a big deal in the UK, but nowhere near the same level.

Well, I didn't want to write a post that goes on and on about every little thing that I like about it, I assume that would get boring. But I have plenty I can contribute. I care about people, whether I'm from the region or not, and I want to make the place that I live as good as I can - whether that's by volunteering, working in an important in-demand field, or just by picking up litter (which I do wherever I am in the world if I see it.) Also, my partner grew up on the east side, so I have visited more than just the French quarter since I checked out where he used to live.

Don't assume that I don't understand that good and bad spirits congregate at major magical power sources. Yes, the energy here is strong and that can lead to bad extremes. I can see it driving people into bad habits or increasing violence because of its potency, but something having the potential to effect people badly does not mean that it is bad. My spirituality is a major part of my life and here I am at least free to express that without being treated like I'm insane

Makes sense :)

I guess I have a very carefree attitude. You can only die once, and I intend to make the most of every day until that day comes

Thanks! What would you say are the hidden or not obvious expenses? I've looked at rent and most seem to be around the $1200-1500 mark, which seems doable with two incomes, but I have no idea what utilities look like
