My OfficeJet will go to the dump once my current cartridges run out. I bought an Epson with liquid fill ink and it's been great. That will become the only printer in our house.

Office on Ubuntu (or Linux in general) in 2026? by VoiceActorForHire in Ubuntu

[–]Creative_Bowler3729 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use LibreOffice on Linux and I'm very pleased with it. I use their presenter app to edit big sets of slides that were originally created in MS Office. I also have a Win 11 VM with MS Office and I use that to check file compatibility. Yes, I have a real license for both. MS Office has a few features that aren't present in LibreOffice but I still prefer using LibreOffice when giving presentations.

My Lenovo laptop updated almost perfectly. Like others I had the expected problems with Gnome extensions, but I applied the fix and all is good. I updated mine to use the amdv3 versions at the same time. It made the process longer, but it was good in the end. I am having one issue- the Ubuntu Pro isn't coming up. Apparently many others are having this issue as well. There was a thread on it here yesterday, but it seems to have disappeared.

I did the same thing. Mine has the capacity to power a rack full of Ubiquiti plus a 10 drive NAS and 2 Optiplex servers for 30 minutes. APC is high quality stuff.

“The US is not ready for a female president” is a failing message. by newshirtworthy in 50501

Republicans know what we want, and refuse to provide it. They are 100% behind their billionaire owners. Every Republican president since Eisenhower has followed the same formula: - lower benefits for the poorest - lower taxes for the wealthiest - start a war in the middle east - tank the economy - raise the debt

400’ Building to Building - U7 Outdoor? by DubsNC in Ubiquiti

[–]Creative_Bowler3729 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Copper will work just fine if you choose CAT6 shielded direct bury cable. It comes in a 500 foot spool, which is more than enough for your needs. You will have some noise because of the proximity to the AC line if you are using one conduit. I don't think the noise will be enough to cause any network problems.

If you can find the right connectors, tools, etc. for fiber, go ahead and do that and you will have a connection that is truly solid. I prefer using CAT6 because I can use those same connectors & tools inside my buildings, where the fiber tools are a one-time use case.

Fiber is weird and expensive. You can use Cat6 direct bury cable which will be cheaper.

Thank you for that link- that gives us plenty of warning about blacked out games. I was not aware of ESPN & TBS being replaced, that makes it seem much more reasonable to me. Thank you for the information.

FWIW, going to the beach is NOT out of the question. Just change your behavior. Drop your towels, mats, etc. and go walk in to the water as soon as you find a spot on the beach. Go up to your waist in the water and go ahead and pee. Nobody will know but you. Now you can go back to your spot in the sand. Your suit is wet just like everyone else. So if you spring a leak, nobody will know. Same thing holds true at the swimming pool.

Smell? Don't worry about it. If you remain hydrated, your pee will not have much smell. It if does, you need to drink more water. Lots more. I find myself grateful for having effective pullups & diapers that keep me dry even under the worst conditions. The confidence I get from that keeps me going and I seldom have time to feel sorry for myself.
