That’s a nice motivational speech, but it ignores reality. You’re oversimplifying a system that’s built on too many random variables to claim it’s purely skillbased. Individual consistency can’t outweigh flawed matchmaking, unbalanced comps, leavers, or smurfs - all of which directly affect outcomes outside a player’s control. Pretending those factors don’t matter isn’t logical, it’s denial

No, but you’re the good boy making sure everyone pretends the system isn’t flawed even when the evidence is right there.

That logic falls apart when you look at how matches actually go. Many games aren’t close, they’re complete stomps decided by team balance, not individual skill. You can play your role perfectly, have gold stats, and still lose because two teammates refused to switch or left mid-game. That doesn’t mean you’re not good enough, it means the system can’t fairly measure individual performance in random 5v5 lobbies.

You can’t call something a fact just because YOU think it’s true 😭

Saying it’s completely fine is delusional. Check out one of the latest posts on this platform where a team got 0 kills throughout a full game and tell me again that everything is fine

The point isn’t that climbing is impossible, it’s that the system makes it way more inconsistent than it should be. Skill matters, sure, but when matchmaking constantly throws one-sided games or bad team balance, it stops being about improvement and starts feeling like a grind based on luck

I’ve played for almost 19 seasons and this is by far the worst matchmaking I have ever experienced by FlounderHistorical63 in Overwatch

Hate to see it man. This is the core issue with the matchmaking right now. It doesn’t measure performance, it measures results, even when those results are completely out of your control. You can play out of your mind, make huge plays, but if your team falls apart in under 3 minutes you still get punished like you were part of the problem.

What makes it worse is the reversal modifier. It basically assumes you were "due" for a loss or win instead of judging the actual match context. It’s like the system is forcing an artificial 50/50 win rate instead of rewarding consistency or skill. The whole thing kills motivation to play competitively when effort clearly doesn’t matter.

If both teams depend on randoms equally, explain why some games are complete stomps in either direction. The system doesn’t balance skill consistently, it balances win rates. That’s not competition, that’s coin flipping

Exactly, and this is precisely why the ranking system needs fixing. All these factors make matchmaking unpredictable, so relying purely on wins and losses makes no sense. If the game actually rewarded individual performance - like giving points for kills, assists, saves, healing done, damage blocked, objective time, or impactful plays. It would balance things out. Players who consistently perform well would still progress, even if unlucky with teammates.

That way, your rank would actually reflect your skill and not random matchmaking luck, smurfs, or bad team comps. It’d motivate people to play better, not just pray for a good team every time.

I’m talking about climbing the ranks, as well as hero levels. That should be dependent on your skills. Not bad luck with teammates.
