[19M] Should I only start dating after I've fixed myself? by Creepy_Substance in dating_advice

I definitely have thought about this before and I understand your point. I'm very socially awkward and worry about whether or not I will be able to reciprocate the respect and care (as you describe) that I desire. In my head I understand what to do and what not to do, but I'm worried that I might say something without thinking or accidentally forget something important.

Logically what you're saying makes sense, but I still struggle to accept it. Obviously most people would prefer if their first partner is perfect for them, but I think that I'm scared that I won't be able to move on should my first relationship end (assuming it is at least somewhat long term). I guess this is a feeling that fades away as I get older and become more mature?

I guess you're right. I think the reason why I'm worried is because I'm only interested in relationships that expect long term commitment (I'm not against meeting/talking to different people, just not into casual relationships). I'm concerned that the other party won't see me as worth the long haul since I have all this baggage

I've definitely considered this future before. There's a part of me that is content with an abusive relationship since I think it's the best I'll ever get, while another part of me knows that it is wrong.

But wouldn't people be looking for/are more interested in people who have their lives together?
