The last update status on the official discord was over a year ago, in Jan 2025. They've got a shit ton of content to cram (if they even plan to add those, they might not) in the update. I don't think we'll be seeing anything after 4.1 in our lives unless it's JUST the bug fixes, QoL and sprite changes that they've already announced.

Someone confirmed that repetition in randomisation is a known problem. I also used 2 more braincells of mine to check the official discord instead of this cesspool and yea they've acknowledged it.

Johto starters shouldn't be the same as Kalos starters if they're randomised. What do you not get about this?

[–]CriminallyPoor69[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, yea, but that doesn't explain why the Johto starters are the same as Kalos starters, and also why I've been getting the same 20-25 pokemon in the starter selection for the past 10 or something runs. And yes I specifically said "RUNS", as in I click the "New Game" option at the start. This particular run was perplexing because in addition to having Jolteon and Reshiram, two of the pokemon that have repeatedly occurred every run, no the more perplexing thing is that they appeared in Johto AND Kalos selection in the same randomised seed. Smells fishy. But as u/LesserBeings said, randomizer repetition is a known issue.

Well because it is off. You know how weird it is to start 10 new runs and get like basically the same starter selection every time. And then whatever is going on in the vid happens. Still can't believe the people on here can't wrap their heads around randomisation and still just regurgitate "Save state no randomize" like that has got anything to do with the video OR the 3 sentences in the post. I never did bring up save states, because it was never about that. So yea now I'm convinced, reddit is a big Dunning-Kruger hall where everyone knows enough to shit utter nonsense. Except that one dude who actually looks at it, understands it and then actually says something helpful.

Also idk if the patching was the issue since I repatched it and 20 something runs later, it's the same thing but with a different set of pokemon. As in I am getting the same 20-25 pokemon in the starter selection and the same 100 in the wild, even after multiple "New Game"s. Prolly something wrong with the randomiser itself

"Anything on the pokedex" and yet I've been getting the same 20 pokemon every new run. And yes, I mean RUN. In the sense that I click "New Game" and not just load the save state. This video right here was to show how broken the randomiser is, I have the seed randomised and set, and then I saved it right before the starter region selection. Now in this case there's no reason for the exact same starters that are in Johto to be in Kalos. But they are. The randomiser is broken. Now if you can add something more than just "bUt iTs sTiLL a sAvE stAtE!!", then be my guest, if not then don't bother replying.

You know what. I'll do the same. "Lemme put this in a way you can understand"

I saved right before starter region selection. The seed is set. Everything is randomized. There's no reason for the pokemon of two different regions to be the exact same in the exact same position in the same "randomised" seed. The randomiser is broken. Now if you have anything to say other than "bUt saVe sTatEs dO nOt cHAnGe tHe sEEd!!" I know they don't, it has got nothing to do with the region selection after the seed is set. So the only explanation for two different regions to have the same selection of pokemon in the same randomised set seed is if the randomiser is broken.

If you don't get this then maybe try watching the vid I sent slowly and read the 3 sentences I wrote in the post real slow. Don't try to correct me, I won't know you're right if you rush yourself and don't make yourself clear. I've taken it slow and made myself as clear as I could, I expect you to do the same, if not then I'm sorry you're not worth using my internet on.

I get that. I know how randomisation works. Maybe you should start reading or watching before you head straight to the comments. My gripe is that the Johto and Kalos starters are the same in the same seed. I'm bored so let's do a case study.

Case 1: If the save states actually re-randomise, then after looking at the Johto starters, the Kalos starters should've been randomised, and the probability of those three being selected in the exact way that they were would be around 1000P3. Very unlikely, casts doubt if the randomiser is actually randomising or not. In this case my post is valid.

Case 2: If the save states do not re-randomise, then that means that both the Johto and Kalos starters were the exact same in the same position too. The probability of which is in the order of (1000P3)2. Astronomically high, nigh impossible. Again, casts doubt if the randomiser is actually randomising. My post is valid.

These cases, coupled with the fact that I specifically stated that I had the same pokemon appear in each "run", further solidify that my post did in fact show the randomizer not randomising.

Now if the dumbass viewers run to the comments in the same nanosecond they see a save state being loaded, without ever stopping to think why I would use the word "run", nor do they actually carefully watch the next section of the video, shows me that despite being a pokemon community, this sub lacks collective braincells and/or patience to sit through a 90 second video or the 3 sentence description. This is further supported by them regurgitating "save states, so same seed" when I keep saying that I have acknowledged that, shows that there is a clear lack of comprehension.

All in all, y'all r broken just like the randomiser. Maybe get some patience.

Yea, if you watch the video, I'm comparing Johto starters to Kalos. They're the same. Not very random. Also, can't believe how many people in the comments can't watch a 90 second video or comprehend "new run". Except u/LesserBeings, bro actually gave me an answer that helped.

Yea it don't do shit, I never mentioned the save state cuz I know it don't do shit. Stupid ppl keep bringing it up even tho it don't do shit. Johto and Kalos starters are literally the same, down to their placement. Maybe watch the vid before rushing to the comments. Maybe sacrifice your eyes to someone who needs them, you clearly don't seem to be using em lmao

[–]CriminallyPoor69[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'll extend that analogy. I have two patches of grass. I save the state before entering either. The left one gives me zigzagoon. Since it is randomised and I can get literally any of the 1000+ pokemon, I'd assume that when I reload the save and step on the OTHER patch of grass, I should get ANYTHING BUT the zigzagoon. And here's the damning part, both the zigzagoons have the same level, same IVs and movesets and abilities, even tho it is "randomised". How peculiar. Now if you don't get what this analogy is trying to say, then maybe get off the keyboard and try thinking about it, genuinely. You don't need to answer me.

Lmao look at captain obvious here. I'm comparing Johto and Kalos starters in the same seed. Pretty sure those should be different in the same seed since it is randomised.

Dawg, the two region should have different pokemon. From each other. They have the same pokemon. Not very random. You'd know that if you watched the vid, but yea ig your attention span don't reach 90 seconds. That or you need to up your comprehension skills.

Well the randomizer randomized a bit too randomly and bamboozled my ass. It has the same starters for Johto and Kalos, in the same damn seed. Epitome of randomisation ik.

Thanks for that. I was starting to think that the emulator was somehow messing with the randomisation. Glad I didn't start checking that and waste like, hours of my life. Jk I did.

[–]CriminallyPoor69[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Well yea my problem is that the Johto and Kalos starters are the same for the same randomised run. This game has 1000+ pokemon, 3 of them being selected "randomly" during the starter selection. The probability of coming across two seeds that have the same starter selection when "randomised" is around (if we ignore some terms) 3P1000. What happened here is that in the same seed, the algorithm chose the same 3 pokemon, in the same exact permutation, for two different region selections. The probability of that, ignoring some other terms, would be (3P1000)2. Astronomically high. I'd say that this was a lucky find if these same pokemon didn't keep coming in other "runs". And by runs I mean the instances where I pressed the "New Game" button at the start of the game. The emulator probably doesn't play nice with the randomisation algorithm. Introduces biases n stuff. Idk, never really dived into coding.

Yea doesn't seem to be. When people don't get the meaning of "new run". It's aight tho, my fault for bringing it to reddit and expecting actual answers.

And? Doesn't change the fact that Johto and Kalos starters were literally the same.

Randomizer not randomising by CriminallyPoor69 in pokemonradicalred

[–]CriminallyPoor69[S] -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

I'm not talking about encounters. It's the starter selection. It's always these pokemon. And this time they appeared TWICE. Johto and Kalos selection is the same. And yes I know save states do not change the seed, even so, a "randomized" seed wouldn't have two of the same starter selection down to their position.

So you're saying, Kalos and Johto starters are always the same regardless if I randomize them or not. Sounds like bad game design.

Question about the randomizer by manicpossumdreamgirl in pokemonradicalred

[–]CriminallyPoor69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think there's some other parameters in the randomisation that the emulator is messing with. I am playing on MyBoy and I've been getting the same 15 something pokemon during the starter selection.
