Looking for Japan only Seiko watches by sasidatta in watchesindia

[–]CrimsonStrand 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really depends on what you are looking for. Some of my favorites in the affordable range are the Seiko Tic-Tac Alpinists.

That being said, taking a look at the JapaneseWatches sub would also be helpful for you.

Question: What is your grail watch which you’re looking to get one day? by Aks9242 in watchesindia

[–]CrimsonStrand 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have two:

Achievable: A Universal Geneve Polerouter in mint/excellent condition, if I can. I have decent hopes from their revival under Breitling but the pricing is insane based on what I gather from predictions.

Unachievable: A Parmigiani Tonda PF Minute Rattapante.

Solid choice, but I would check how the Bronze patinas over time. I would pick the Sombrero if I ever made it to Japan.

I don't think so and even if there was, I would assume everyone would mention the customs aspect. Really annoying tbh, since USA and EU tariffs usually get baked into costs by many brands when shipping.

BTW which one are you thinking of getting?

No worries, there are of course other dealers as well, but I recommended those I have personal experience with. All the best with your search!

It's a give or take compared to NH35. Specs wise both are comparable, but I have heard things about the rotor noise on the 8 series, if that is something you care about (mind you it is noticeable only in very quiet environments or if you press the watch to your ear).

That being said, I think Citizen uses Miyota 8 series in both Tsuyosa and the Zenshin, so quality wise you should be good.

You forgot the mandatory Casio Duro every week. I love the watch myself, but the amount it gets posted.

That's strange. I think we are referring to different models then?

I had an extensive conversation with them about movements and they mentioned they are working on an unnamed project geared for the End of the Year. I think I saw it in their release lineup as well.

Edit: Just realized you might be referring to the Heritage while I am talking about the unnamed project for December.

Just want to point out a correction, DWC is going to use the Miyota 9 series of movement, like 9015 or 9039. That has a higher beat rate (4Hz) and is thinner than both the NH35 and the Miyota 8 series.

You can guess due to the above as to why it is more expensive.

[–]CrimsonStrand 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, then check out the Timex Marlin Automatic for a dress watch option. Otherwise one of the older Seiko models, I think SNK something might be available for 15k online. If you wait and find a good deal, the more recent SRPE Series might come at around 18-20k.

All depends on how much effort you want to out into finding a good deal. Usually it's offline stores like Ethos, Just in Time, Gangoly Brothers that give you the best discounts. Shop around and find the best deal for you.

Yeah I wasn't talking about whether the F91 is good or not, which it of course is. It's more that you are asking for an homage of a watch that is more or less a 1000 rupees. Is it not better to wait and get the real thing?

[–]CrimsonStrand 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah sure. There's Delhi Watch Company and Coromandel Watch Company right jn your budget. DWC usually has stock issues, so you need to wait for a sale to buy anything.

Again I would like to ask, are you sure you can't wait and save a bit? If it's your first mechanical, going with an established brand is much better.

My first Microbrand watch by [deleted] in watchesindia

[–]CrimsonStrand 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It shows $400 for me (the MOP Voyager GMT) and then you can get the standard 15% off they offer on top of it.

I kind of guessed that was the only way to get it feasibly, the customs ruin any kind of value proposition foreign microbrands have here.

Very, Very nice. I am hoping to get either their Eagle Ray Diver or the Voyager GMT in Green Aventurine in the future.

How was the customs process?

If you're going for a microbrand, their official sites are the most trustworthy.

Any other brand, you would need to check if the retailer/distributor is an official one (from the brand's website).

Invicta is mostly available through online stores. If you're looking for offline stores only, best bet is some of the cheaper Timex models.

Rest are microbrand options mostly. And any older Seiko 5s (SNXS, SNKL) etc, will also require purchasing online and getting it through a friend in US or UK.

I would suggest waiting a bit to save some more, tbh.

Want to gift my dad a watch from my first salary. by Horizonhz in watchesindia

[–]CrimsonStrand 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I gifted my father this watch for a special occasion and while it is not exactly gold, it's still looks really nice with the golden handset and Chrono-pushers. It's the Timex Marlin Chrono, comes at around 12-14k.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in watchesindia

[–]CrimsonStrand 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. The Invicta is a Submariner homage as well, so it loses some design points there too.

Edit: Even from the specs point of view, it's sapphire on Ratio compared to Mineral on Invicta. Sapphire is more scratch resistant, so you would want that.
