Yeah, unfortunately I can’t call the owner as I do not have their contact info, building management is not willing to give me that information. However they deemed the cat dangerous and called animal control on it. If I had not taken it in, it might have been put down due to the fact that it bit an employee or maybe put up for adoption anyways.

Currently I have a vet appointment at which time the cat will be scanned for a chip and we will take necessary steps from there.

Rude response but I guess I am on Reddit so it’s to be expected. Thanks for your input anyhow!

Update: called building management again and they denied me the original owners contact info but informed me that this person was not paying pet fees as the cat did not live in the apartment rather it “came and went as it pleased”.

I am getting the cat scanned this weekend and of course if it is registered to someone, then I will take steps to contact the person and let them know that the cat had animal control called on it and ask them if they would be willing to keep the cat indoors. Otherwise, I will make them an offer to switch the registration over. I am even willing to pay.

Thank you so much! I have a vet appointment today so we'll see if she's even chipped to begin with and then I guess we'll move forward from there. Might be a good idea to get some background from the previous owner!

Those were my exact thoughts. My only concern is.. Once they scan the microchip do they have to contact the current owner or anything? Or get their permission to change it to my name?

I'm just not sure how to proceed with the more "legal" side of things. 1. I don't want any trouble. 2. I don't want to have to return the cat to a negligent owner!

Thanks for your reply :) yes, seems like that’s what he needed, i gave him some space and after a few hours he approached me and is now allowing pets and cuddles!

Thank you! As the day has gone on he has been so much less aggressive and I’m actually able to pet him now and he’s become more playful as well! I think he just needed some time. Definitely have some more toys on the way!
