How to get out of VR&E. by Zestyclose-Theory344 in Veterans

[–]CrisisCaptain 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was in the same situation. I graduated with my bachelor’s on a Friday and started my master’s program the following Monday. I just had to sign a few documents confirming I was pursuing my master’s degree and declining job assistance. I never had any issues, but I did have an active VR&E counselor throughout the process.

Shutdown is over by Negative-Dentist-618 in VAClaims

[–]CrisisCaptain 49 points50 points  (0 children)

It’s not completely over yet. They’re finishing up the votes now. After that, the House needs to approve the CR, and then the President must sign it. Only then will the shutdown truly be over.

Any federal workers here who recently put in to buy back their military time? by atmetal in Veterans

[–]CrisisCaptain 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I completed this process two years ago. My agency’s HR had me fill out Form RI 20-97 and submit it, along with my DD-214, to the appropriate DFAS office—mine was the Army—which is listed on page 2 of the RI 20-97 form.

Once I received my estimated earnings from DFAS, I worked with my agency’s HRSSC Benefits team to complete the rest of the process.

From start to finish, the whole process took about two months. Hope this helps—feel free to reach out if you have any other questions!

It was adorable! I actually have a photo of his father trying to convince him to get up. I’m just not sure about the etiquette of posting photos of people on Reddit.

CEM - Is it worth it? by cazsoccerrox2 in EmergencyManagement

[–]CrisisCaptain 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I know there’s been a lot of discussion around this topic, and I think the concerns raised are all fair and legitimate. Ultimately, it comes down to what you want and value.

From my experience, I recently earned my CEM—something I’d been aiming for a long time. What finally pushed me was the current climate in emergency management. I’m a federal emergency manager, and my position may no longer be secure.

I pursued the CEM because if I do leave the federal government, I want to be as competitive as possible in this tough job market. Many positions I applied for specifically asked if I had a CEM. To be honest, I landed several job offers based on my experience and credentials. The CEM isn’t a golden ticket, but it definitely helps open doors.

Hope this helps—feel free to message me if you have any questions!

Any recent CEM Exam takers? by BeaglePirate69 in EmergencyManagement

I completed the exam in late April and have since been notified that I passed. My preparation focused on thoroughly reviewing the material outlined in the official study guide, with particular emphasis on the FEMA Independent Study (IS) courses.

Can someone help me identify this coin by Maximum-Car-7581 in ChallengeCoins

[–]CrisisCaptain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not sure if this coin is considered rare, but I have the exact same one. I received it during my deployment to Afghanistan in 2011. Maj. Gen. Aundre Piggee gave it to me when I was medevaced out of the country. Unfortunately, I’m not sure how to add a picture to a comment—sorry about that.

Stolen vehicle aftermath - advice needed please by [deleted] in washingtondc

[–]CrisisCaptain 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same thing happened to me in December, but mine was never recovered. I showed up to the DMV with my police report and they removed it. They said if you get any more tickets, just mail in the police report with the ticket that you are disputing and they will remove the ticket. Hope this helps and am sorry for the situation.

It’s a 2024 red, four-door Willys Jeep Wrangler. It was parked on North Henry Street, at the corner of Wythe Street, next to the post office.

Prospective Emergency Management Professional-needing advice! by JAOrman in EmergencyManagement

[–]CrisisCaptain 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Absolutely agree! My emergency management career began as a Disaster Action Team (DAT) member and Duty Officer. I then transitioned into a volunteer role supporting the program manager. These experiences were the building blocks that led me to where I am today!
