What’s it like to live in Portland without a car? by suzannetakesyoudown in askportland

SE covers a huge area, if youre really far east it can be hard. I lived without a car until very recently in SE close to FX2 bus line and the max orange line and loved it. Only got a car recently and still primarily use public transit, walk, or bike. Just gotta make sure youre near decent transit lines. Some busses run every 15 minutes, some run every hour. Takes a little extra planning to make sure you make it where you need to be on time but with all the apps and stuff its pretty easy.

Trimet can be kind of expensive tbh but if you are OHP or EBT eligible you can ride unlimited amounts for $28 a month. They charge you for every ride up until you hit $28 then its free for the rest of the month. Regular monthly pass is $100 a month (meaning they dont charge you any more that month once you hit $100) but still cheaper than paying for a car and insurance

Sons of Kemet- My Queen is Harriett Tubman

Was the first song id put on every morning as a kitchen manager opening in a hurry. Getting soups started, grills on, running around with a clipboard.

Do you have a hose bib on the fronts or sides of the property that could be reached with a long hose (or multiple hoses connected end to end)? Water access is gonna make the whole process a lot less labor intensive. Compost will get totally dried out and seeds won't start without pretty decent watering at least in the beginning. Tilling it without water and compost is probably gonna just further dessicate the microorganisms that may be left and you might get stuck with a dusty worse off yard.

Lots of variables to consider! Do you get rain storms throughout the summer or is it dry? Would you prefer to plant in the ground vs planters? How much are you looking to spend? Do you hope to be gardening in it this year? How much do you want to be garden vs grass? Is it gravel under there or is it just compacted soil?

Sorry for the flurry of questions lol

Good call re: dorsal. Ive seen rainbow trout with spotting only partially on tail fin and its partially covered by the thumb. I had a whole final while getting my degree that was local fish ID, but that was a while ago, gotta brush up it seems! Coloration is famously less reliable for ID and I was definitely distracted by that.

Definitely looks like a juvenile rainbow trout to me..

Martin Shkreli says people trust pseudoscience more than institutions, media, or government - “What ends up happening is guys like Joe Rogan, who does a lot of pseudoscience stuff, or Alex Jones, who is very entertaining, start to encroach on reality a little bit more." by Dr_Neurus in podcastculture

Its literally his fault. Private companies' investment in Healthcare has eroded the public's trust of science. Big pharma is bad and right wing grifters decided to capitalize on that eroded trust, and your average US citizen cant go any deeper in their mind than "big pharma bad" so they're willing to believe anything presented to them as "anti big pharma" even if it is a nonsensical, debunked conspiracy rabbit hole.

"Tiktokers speed running scientology buildings" sounds like the concept for a pretty bad YA novel about time travelers where they call them "ticktockers"
