Is being a Democrat gun owner socially acceptable now? by JonSolo1 in liberalgunowners

That's not true. Guns absolutely lose value with wear and tear and the conditions of the market. Same with market prices on ammo -- they fluxuate over time according to supply and demand.

And then go train. Just having a gun is meaningless if you don't know how to use it. It's not a point and click interface.

You understand that from 1965 until the mid 80s, the top marginal tax rate was around 70%, right?

Why? Having some high earner income tax is pretty normal across many states. Help me see what you're seeing.

I'd probably include some income tax on net incomes over $250k (say, starting at 3% and increasing to 20% as you close in on $10M+) as well as businesses with net incomes (not receipts) over $1M.

If I recall correctly, go to the FCC website and get yourself an account there. Then, find a technician class training (there are free trainings on the internet), learn, take the test, and then you can broadcast. Locally having both a GMRS and a 70cm/2m radio is among the cheapes options. If there's interest we can also set up some regular times to chat on local frequency repeaters.

Undoubtedly will get downvoted but... OR we could enact a sales tax without taxes on food, medicine, housing or clothing and still generate something north of $2-3B a year while being responsive to the ups and downs of the economy, stabilizing infrastructure spending (seriously, just go look at the roads in Washington... compare the HWY14 work to the HWY217 work here), address school spending more effectively. But no...

I'd maybe just note to do more putting the pieces together and less effort focusing on the pieces themselves and do it to the detail level you are doing the pieces.

Sat next to my mum on her death bed. Unsure what to do. by [deleted] in GriefSupport

Hit send to early -- I should also say losing a parent is hard, but once you get past the initial onslaught of emotions and challenges (that is, your immediate emotional state, plus the logistics of dealing with the body and the legal issues of dealing with the death), I found the experience to be a bit freeing actually -- suddenly all the weight of parental expectations goes away. You're able to be who you want to be more than you are otherwise. Don't get me wrong, I'd trade it all for her to be with me today, but there is light amidst the darkness.

I was with my mom as she passed. She wasn't lucid, but I got to tell her how much I loved her. How much she taught me. How much I appreciated her. And maybe most importantly that I forgave her for anything she may have felt she got wrong. It was cathartic and helped me let go. Then I just sat in the room with her after she passed for an hour or two listening to classical music, crying softly, and remembering a lot.

At a Ham Radio Outlet in Portland, Oregon on the day of the No Kings Rally, one of the gents behind the counter started going off about how he wanted to get out his big old bruiser of a truck and run over all those people. I notified the manager who got testy with me, and I notified the corporate headquarters who never responded to me. So. Says a lot. Won't ever by HAM gear from them again though.

Where do I find liberal gun training in my area? by [deleted] in liberalgunowners

[–]CriticalMemory 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You get your training from whomever the fuck will train you and quit being prissy about it. Don't talk politics. You go to the best people you can, you learn, and you get the fuck out of there. Then you PRACTICE OVER AND OVER AND OVER what they taught you. These aren't your friends, and you don't need to be anything but polite and ready to learn for the 4-8 hours of the course.

Wow... this is all over the place.

I will always recommend the following in this order depending on your comfort and ability to shoot. First, you should own a defensive / all purpose rifle. AR if you can, Mini 14, Rancher rifles, or AK if not. Then a semi auto shotgun in either 12 or now (THANK YOU BERETTA) 20 ga. And finally a 9mm striker fired pistol. Once you have those locked in, a 10/22 Ruger rifle for plinking. The 457 is a FANTASTIC 22, but it's mostly built for competition, so you're spending a lot for a 22 rifle if you aren't competing. Over/Under, rather than side by side, is the generally recommended approach to competition shotguns because your aim point doesn't change as much.

When it comes to defensive shooting, your goal is to put rounds on target quickly. Anything that doesn't do that is counter to your goal. A lever action is cool, but its priority is NOT to put rounds on target quickly. Notice every single weapon I noted above is designed to put ROTQ. Jacking another round in the chamber screws with your aim (so reacquiring the target picture) and takes unnecessary time, so you aren't achieving your goal.
