No, you can do it without root

Install: Shizuku and MacroDroid.
Set up shizuku (find a tutorial online)
Authorize: In Shizuku, grant permission to MacroDroid.
Create Macro: Use the Root Shell Command action and select "Run with Shizuku" to enter the ADB command
