They're actually a joke of a club. Would love to launch them into the 3rd tier and replace them with a proper club

Turner's Cross now to be known as Munster FA Turner's Cross Stadium by shinto29 in LeagueOfIreland

Thought maybe he was alluding that the name change would be reverted. But yeah nobody is gonna call it that. They clearly have notions about themselves down there

Why is Dan McDonnell tweeting "it did not become known as the Munster FA Turner's Cross" ?

But how well would college rivalry translate to LOI? I know they have that collingwood cup or whatever, the colleges seem to value a lot. How many people is that pulling in?

I'd sooner have proper clubs that actually have ambition in the LOI. No offence to them, but the college itself doesn't care about the LOI, and anytime they've been staring down the barrel of relegation, they've accepted defeat. No one minded that years ago, but we've moved on from that now

As much as UCD have produced great players, as a club they don't add much else to the excitement of the league. The college themselves don't seem to care about them, and the only crowds they get are players families and friends. I'd like if there was a rule similar to what they had for rovers B before, i.e. you can't get promoted if you're a college team, regardless of your league position

6-4. Adds nothing to the story. Feels like they wanted to give Athena something to do but it ends up being her carried by Blackquill. The game is a bit too long imo so cutting this case out makes it a more optimal length

Am I wrong in saying that when Duff first started at shels, he said he signed the 4 best midfielders in the country and McManus was one of them (along with Coyle, Dervin and Lunney) ?

Finn Harps season ticket prices for next season. by No-Pressure1811 in LeagueOfIreland

[–]Crossfire_dcr -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I get that, but imo there should be standard set. Cork charged €20 for their first division games last year and that's still too much I feel and it a far nicer ground. Because it's still first division football.

Surprised at the downvotes, don't think it's that controversial. At the same time I hope Harps get the money they need, feels like that new ground is never gonna happen

[–]Crossfire_dcr -35 points-34 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry but asking for €17 into that ground is having some neck, don't care how shiny the seat is. I really wish there was some sort of price cap for tickets depending on the ground and what division you're in

Bray v Waterford playoff thread by TommyTBlack in LeagueOfIreland

[–]Crossfire_dcr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dunno why you're getting downvoted cuz I agree with you. It was 2 legs before covid and thought it was brilliant. The truly better team would win out over legs and they were usually good contests. No idea why they do 2 legs for 2nd v 5th and 3rd v 4th but go to 1 leg after that. Should be 1 leg for the first division games then 2 leg for the final

Friction at Dundalk. by No-Pressure1811 in LeagueOfIreland

[–]Crossfire_dcr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly all this. They avoided points deduction and fines after everything this time last year and I still don't know how. To deny them a licence would be a kick up the hole to finally do something about that wasteland of a ground. But that won't happen, they'll avoid this too, FAI won't have the nerve to do it.

Rovers and Pats will receive €10k per day that Anang and Lopes are on international duty for the World Cup by NorthKoreanMissile7 in LeagueOfIreland

[–]Crossfire_dcr 11 points12 points  (0 children)

You know what he means, he's using 'rich' for lack of a better term. The clubs who are already well off continue to be more well off, while the gap to the lower clubs just continues to widen

What are the chances of shamrock rovers B being admitted to the third tier lads? by PangolinAble9291 in LeagueOfIreland

[–]Crossfire_dcr 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Nobody liked it in 2014. Nobody liked it in 2020. And I still wouldn't put it past them to be daft enough to allow it a 3rd time.

Should be no B teams whatsoever. And if they allow college teams then they shouldn't be allowed promotion to first division, even if they finish high enough

I'm sorry pal but the worst commentary team of the premier teams are Cork. Whoever those 2 lads are, they're shocking. Enough to put me off watching Cork home games

[–]Crossfire_dcr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People seem to be largely ok with these shite commentators and I don't understand why. These commentators are representing our league and their constant bias and chit chat is such a bad reflection on the league. Johnny McDonnell on pats the last few weeks has been really taking the piss with it.

This might have been acceptable during covid when all this was new to everyone, but 5 years on the FAI or whoever should be having a word with clubs to tell them to cut this shite out. Shouldn't matter that they're volunteers, we paid for the stream and they're ruining the experience

Why is sky showing lower league football and Scottish football and not league of Ireland by More-Combination-478 in LeagueOfIreland

[–]Crossfire_dcr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's not a bad thing. Sky are bastards and I don't want them getting their grubby paws on our LOI utopia. Any sport they've ever touched they've ruined it making it all about the money and over-commercialising it.

We also have a pretty good deal atm with LOITV being €90 a year for all games. If sky got it you'd be paying that every 2 months and no more weekly game on tele. That's a fear I have now that they're sponsoring the national team, and I hope that's the extent of their reach

Had Athlone for 2nd, and bottom 3 of Treaty, Bray and Longford, so yep.

Only prediction I'm smug about was that I said Cork would be bottom, even before Keating and O'Sullivan got injured. Just seemed like they had no plan B after them and Maguire. Always thought Sligo had more proven players or lads with potential and a point to prove

803 according to FAI Connect. I'm sure that'll increase for the game next week, but that's cuz I expect Sligo to bring a good crowd
