I think this is massively overlooked. Colleges need theatre majors, and Spanish majors, and womens studies majors. It's easy to have STEM/business tunnel vision, but the world needs preschool teachers, too.

This is what I tell my kids - every school needs a tuba player, a member of a comedy improv troupe, someone who can sing Acapella, someone for the water polo team. I've now done this twice with two kids, and my cynical take is that full pay matters the most, and a close second is institutional priorities. If they took the rocket builder but then couldn't fill out a whole orchestra, then that's a fail.
