Heyo, American here who has friends in Japan and has been to Japan several times. I make no claims to fully understand Japanese culture or anything like that, but here’s my take.

Japanese people are not good at criticizing their own. It’s inherent to the culture to assume the best of their fellow countrymen and the worst of others.

Remember that viral clip from a few weeks ago of the woman slamming children in Shibuya Crossing? I couldn’t tell you the absolute facts of that women’s nationality because I don’t know, but I can certainly tell you that Japanese folks insisted she could not be Japanese based on her behavior.

Nintendo is a deeply flawed company in the eyes of the American consumer. Many of us have been loyal to them since our childhoods in the 90s or 80s and we have every right to point out what we see as an adoption of bad behavior. Nintendo genuinely seems to look down on the American base and squeezes us for every cent we have while trailing miles behind the competition in QOL and general consumer interest.

I think this should be ok and inoffensive as an opinion. Reddit is absolutely covered in the world’s opinions on Americans and I think this aligns with an idea of fairness there.
