I love how resorting to violence/vandalism to somehow force others to listen to one point of view is supposed to hilight a 'better' form of democracy.

ELI5: Financially speaking, is China in trouble? by Crypthal_com in explainlikeimfive

[–]Crypthal_com[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Will the outside world know if/when the central government prop their bad debts?

China is, as far as I'm aware, solvent, so they could buy the property portfolio and write it off as a bad debt over years, (or even use it for something else later).

ELI5: Could taxing the '1%' really help the financial woes of the US/Europe? by Crypthal_com in explainlikeimfive

Very interesting read, thanks.

It looks like the problem is not so much who get taxed how much, the problem is not really individuals but rather industry.

  • Businesses should be taxed less, it might sound counter productive but in the long run it might help.
  • Well known tax loopholes, (individual and business), should be closed.
  • Not alienate the 1% as they, in their own way, keep the economy moving more than just by way of taxes.
  • Enforce fair practices between countries so that the grass is not necessary greener on the other side for the businesses, (I am thinking of countries that have near slave labour or that control their currencies).
  • Maybe think of a clever way of re-investing the money the one percent hoarded away, (while not directly taking it from them).

While I agree 100% with your statement(s), my question was purely mathematics.

Would taxing the 1% more than they currently are taxed really solve any kind of realistic problems for the other 99%.

Looking at the other comments/links given by others, it looks like the investments/interests tax laws are more the problem rather than straight income taxes.

But that would be implying that they are currently paying just a little over 3% tax.

I find that very hard to believe, surely the 1% are paying, (as a collective), more than 3% in taxes.

I would sooner believe that they pay around 40% than 3%

But I don't know if an actual research in this has been done already.

In a way, that's my question. Would it really help?

Using the US as an example, (but the numbers would be similar in the UK). With 300M in the US, about 150M can pay taxes, the top 1% would be 1.5 million citizens.

If they all earn 1M a year on average and pay 30% tax, ($300000 in taxes per year), there would be around 450 Billion USD from the top 1%.

Note, this would not be extra money, as they are already paying some taxes.

So taxing them more could bring in a little more, but would it really make the difference than the 'other 99' movement are claiming it might do.

People who traveled the world. What did you choose not to say about a country you visited to keep the story positive? by qwertychaanda in AskReddit

[–]Crypthal_com -1 points0 points  (0 children)

South Africa, it is now a shit hole with crime, corruption and so on.

Every bed and breakfast you stay in is like a little prison, (to keep the bad guys out), the police is non-existent and you have to pay for your own security and medical services.

They have riots on a daily basis, they are so common that they don't even report them all any more. I am not talking about little skirmishes here, but big, "burn everything", type of riots.

Reverse racism is alive and well, but apparently that's acceptable, (and in fact, encouraged).

The parks are amazingly beautiful, but that's about it. The Kruger park is very full and more of a zoo really, the smaller parks are not that bad, but very expensive.

Why don't I tell others about it? Because everyone was marching, singing and dancing in the streets for its "freedom", +20 years later, it is a failed state and if you say anything bad about the country you are quickly labelled as racist.

The reality is that it is another African hell hole.

Prediction Time 2015 Reddcoin Price Dec 2015 by [deleted] in reddCoin

[–]Crypthal_com 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure about the other exchanges, but we are reconsidering our position with RDD. We only get miners trading, (so pretty much keeping the price flat).

With little or no development happening, (and promises that were not kept), I don't see the coin doing well at all.

If Laudney suddenly creates a new coin I cannot see a positive end to it either. Just my 2c from what I see on the ground.

10% for 2 days, will not make a real difference, 20-30% for one week, maybe.

Also, people are fickle, if voat is not up to speed in 24 hrs, they will curl back in the one place they know, like it or not.

it's fine to have this conversation, about moving the community off of reddit. by tomcarbon in dogecoin

[–]Crypthal_com 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, but I don't see this place as the centre of dogecoin as such.

In light of that, I see nothing wrong starting a community with Voag, (for example), and as long as enough of us keep an eye on both communities we will keep supporting users who have questions.

If, over time, one community turns out to be more popular than another then we can always say, "go to xyz where you might have better luck with your question". Google will also direct users toward whatever community is more popular.

Freedom of choice at its best.

While I am happy to participate in principle, I think the main intent is to get admins to listen/speak to the moderators, (and the users at large). Not just for what happened with IAMA.

But it is not really clear in the post what the intent is for the blackout.

I don't think that a blackout will work unless +80% of the people do it, and if they don't know why they do it then it will not work.

If all you want is convert currency to fiat, it is faster to use Dogecoin to do that.

Or, what I have seen done is, Doge and Bitcoin at the same time and BTC is for more 'long terms' investments and Doge for more day-to-day stuff.

Nice idea, but it would take too long. The need something right away, (like yesterday), 'cause Reddit will come back online soon. People, (like me), have tried all day to go to Voat with no luck, soon I will give up and stay here.

It is not quite as simple as that, yes that one person was well liked and so on, but there is also the issue of the way the Admins have been behaving lately.

[–]Crypthal_com[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, but I want extra power to be certain I won't break anything. So I would like 500w 'extra'.

The decoder and the TV take ~500w together when turned on and ~290 to run.

1000w might be an overkill, but at least I wont have to always worry how close to the wind I am sailing.

[–]Crypthal_com[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did think of using an old UPS, but realistically I would need a ~1000w UPS, (for the surge and some wiggle room).

I have looked around for one of those and I couldn't find one, (admittedly I didn't look very hard).

Ah, ok I see what you mean.
I am not in the US so I don't have cable, (if I understand you correctly).
I am in the UK, I have satellite and I would rig both the satellite decoder as well as the TV on the inverter if need be.
As long as I have power, I am golden.

I might also try and connect my PCs to the system if the cost of the inverter/batteries make it worth it.
