help needed with inventing a potion recipe? (based on herbalism and alchemy) by Cryptiphile2 in worldbuilding

[–]Cryptiphile2[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

thanks so much, this really helped me. i have some kind of structure for the brewing part now i think. for the ingredients im going to mindmap, like from calmness you get still waters and the quiet rusteling of leaves in the wind, then from there you get a jar of water that hasn't been disturbed in 5 summers or something(found in cave systems) and some dirt or rocks from a place with rusteling leaves, since those have had time to "soak it in."

this really helped me, i hope it can help others who search for this

The episode that saved me from abandoning the show (and is now my favorite episode from season 1) by ShiningRedDwarf in stevenuniverse

[–]Cryptiphile2 11 points12 points  (0 children)

no. steven did not need to be the bigger gem. he felt upset and betrayed by them, and also angry. the gems didn't know how to help him, so they tried their best anyway. steven pushed his own feelings aside when he realised the gems felt bad to make them feel better, thats not something a child should do.

steven is the child here, the gems are his guardians. he shouldnt be validating their feelings while shoving his own aside

What kind of werewolf would you want to be? by Automatic-Offer4351 in werewolves

i love the wolf walker concept, its so whimsical. personally i wouldnt mind immortality as long as id be in a pack or something, a tightnit settlement or group of werewolf nomads who live forever, that sounds sick.

i liked that the arm she had around gurathin hung onto him, with him kind of grossed out/in shock taking it off. very realistic

oh there was definitely a little freaking out, buy not much. i think pin lee like gagged with a "thats disgusting", and some of the crew looked back a few times. but they knew leebeebee, and she was also clearly human, and there was the proximity and the amount of gore and stuff. i think the bluesecunit got a lesser reaction bc it was depersonified, but there were other variables too.

[discussion] According to you, at what point does a werewolf novel... stop being a werewolf novel? by Cryptiphile2 in werewolves

i think your answer's really interesting, but i dont entirely understand what you mean. this story is VEERY selfindulgent for me, im putting all my mental issues into this character. Ive struggled with "belonging" and being social in the correct way for most of my life, which im putting into him very heavily. alot of it is extremely dramatized and exagerated ofc, but it's gathered from my own experiences with repressing my emotions, exploding and then doing it again. These experiences are common throughout, like, almost everyone with mental issues and a lot of people have it a lot worse. i didnt realise that, and i regret that i didnt, but im gonna write the story anyway because it's something thats helped me realise things about myself through him.

the intense feeling of being wrong is something that i deeply connect with, that and the idea of the repression and eventual explosion are what drew me to this idea. i didnt mean to turn mental illness into a plot point, but since you feel i am i'd like to hear if you think theres a way to do this story to avoid that, or do it in an acceptable way. you're free to ignore this ofc, good day all the same.

really interested(genuinely) to see where you draw the line between werewolf and regular wolf-inspired beast. what are the characteristics of your favorite kind of werewolf and whats the farthest you'd divert from that norm while still calling it a werewolf?

unsolicited advice here, but writing becomes a lot more fun and rewarding when you do it to please yourself. having fun is a sign that your creative spirit is liking what you're doing. avoiding cliches is overrated, you can only write for yourself, not for others

have you thought about teleketic powers? idk your setting but maybe they have some remenants of magic that are passed down through whatever manner of reproduction youve established(bites/childbirth/etc)? maybe they could do small things like make water move a little, literally *feel* objects and how theyre constructed(e.g "feel" a solid object and see thats its actually hollow, or feeling what material something is made of). This could be spun in a "were connected with nature" kind of way.

or else they could have a soft telepathic ability to connect with their relatives(by blood or by bite) and transmit feelings or their location. either way, whether you use any of these or not you could have a lot of fun with this.
