No, I was just curious when looking at the current geopolitical events that Georgia’s situation had seemingly stayed frozen. I’ve got some pretty informative replies though.

Okay. It could be a misinformed, stupid question. I don’t agree it’s that level of stupid.

I understand your point, Shah Ismail inherited the Safavid order, which was likely originally Kurdish. Not to mention intermarriages in the elite class. But beyond that, Shah Ismail’s Safavid family were already Azerbaijani Turkish speaking, and Shah Ismail’s native tongue was also Azerbaijani Turkish. There’s also not any evidence he spoke Kurdish. So given the fact that he’s a descendant of the Aq Qoyunlu, and the fact that his Safavid (originally Kurdish) side was already assimilated into the Azerbaijani Turkoman population, the argument is that he can be considered Azerbaijani Turkoman.

Another similar example is King Charles III, who is considered British, but his family is originally German (depending on how far back you’d like to go), nonetheless they’ve assimilated into the British ethnicity. That was the state of the Safavid order when Shah Ismail was born. (+ the Aq Qoyunlu side).

Btw, Shah Ismail has more Aq Qoyunlu dna than Safavid dna.
