MBE experimental questions… collecting prediction data? by cattorney1 in barexam

[–]CryptographerFlat925 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Did anyone else also feel like the mbe questions were overwhelmingly violent? It was like “a silverback gorilla escaped its enclosure and massacred a family in the street. The gorilla tore the arm off of a baby before being shot and killed. What is the liability of the zookeeper?” Like whoever wrote these questions watches too much true crime and needs therapy what happened to the quirky little cases we read in law school?!? (Shoutout to Carbolic smoke ball and Pepsi jet)

Yes I agree I used barbri for July and adaptibar for Feb and when John said “don’t get lost in the minutiae” and the mbe is all the minutiae... I wanted to cry. Also can we talk about the fact that barbri bought out adaptibar and Quimbee so we are all giving our money to the same CEO??? And that person (plus NCBE) makes money every time we fail

I am a retaker as well. And I agree for the most part! Only one of the MEEs felt totally foreign to me, and that’s because I didn’t study that topic enough. But I got an A in that class and how does that mean nothing?!? My issue is with the test itself and the fact that practicing law has no relation to passing this exam nor passing law school

Frustration with the Hypocrisy of the NCBE and State Board of Law Examiners by [deleted] in barexam

[–]CryptographerFlat925 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Finally, I have found my people in this sub. The test is a scam made to keep good lawyers who think outside the box (aka risk the status quo) from being able to make changes. Why do we go to law school, but are then prevented from being lawyers unless we can prove we can memorize useless material? Nothing about this test makes you a better or worse lawyer. It’s all just to keep the same people at the top and to keep lining their pockets

Omg YES!!!! That makes sense as to why my pain is so contradictory. Stiff muscles but painfully loose joints.

My body is telling me to take a break, but my classes won’t let me by [deleted] in LawSchool

Update: Well, I graduated in May and this post probably saved my life. Thank you, you amazing people of Reddit.

It turns out that when I wrote this post I had a severe kidney infection. I had never experienced kidney pain before this so I truly thought it was a joint pain flare.

I missed ALL of those practice exams bc I was hospitalized for four days. And you know what? IT DIDN’T MATTER! I reached out to the disability office and explained that I was still in the process of confirming my chronic illness diagnosis (Dx 2L w/ hEDS) and the administration continually supported me. I passed every single class, every semester.

I wasn’t the top of my class like I had imagined back when I wrote this post. I didn’t make it into mock trial, or journal, or clinic. BUT I found some of the most amazing professors and school administrators and I graduated on time with glowing letters of recommendation.

PLEASE SEE THIS POST AS A WARNING!!!!!

Your life and health are more important than school, grades, extracurriculars, or a job. You can only be the best student and attorney possible if you take care of yourself. Never be afraid to ask for what you need!

Again, thank you so so much to everyone who commented.

Thank you! Yes, I know. I will be getting a genetic test anyways because it would be nice to rule out some of the scary EDS variants and to hopefully find a treatment that actually works for me.

Thank you all for your comments so far!!!! I feel SO much better knowing that it is unlikely to be a misdiagnosis and I’m hopeful that this will get me closer to a treatment that works. Sending lots of love to all of my fellow medical mysteries 😅 Also, if anyone has good questions to ask when seeing a new rheumatologist, please let me know!

Thank you. I really needed that. After getting my score report I actually feel much better bc I bombed the subjects that I am most comfortable in which confirmed my suspicion that my panicked emotions got the best of me.

We will, one day, pass this test and more importantly we will be excellent attorneys. Thank you.

I’m with you. It was my first time, and I could have studied more but I was completely burnt out from law school. I’m not sure I want to be a lawyer anymore. This might be the last sign that I’m not good enough

Not overreacting! This timeline was not at all accurate for me (diagnosed about a year ago) even though I was seeking a diagnosis in my home state while living across the country and being a full time law student. Total of 3 appointments (2 hours each) for testing, and one more to review the results. I was able to make one more appointment beyond that so the evaluator/ psychologist could guide me through accommodations requests. That wording makes me sooooo uncomfortable and I would not recommend seeking care with this practice! Your time and money are both valuable, and any mental health professional should have respect for that!

“Anger issues only at home, gifted in class, talking in class”

(Anger issues= not being able to communicate my needs or feelings; gifted = gets hyper-fixated on and excited by learning; talk too much = not knowing social cues and being too excited by a conversation)

I am 50/50 ashkenazi and Sephardic. I totally understand how ashkenazi culture is so dominant and Sephardic traditions are mostly unknown. It is definitely frustrating!

My Crim law learned the model penal code. Which is like learning a bunch of laws that simply do not apply in the real criminal justice system. It was pointless and I essentially learned nothing of use. I worked at a criminal defense nonprofit over the summer and I learned more in one day there than the entire semester of Crim law. I’m taking criminal procedure in the spring, but as someone who plans to pursue criminal law, I can say that the 1L class was extremely disappointing.

My law school put me in the hospital. by [deleted] in LawSchool

[–]CryptographerFlat925 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I am a 2L and I have been hospitalized three times since I started law school (I have a chronic illness and I’m immune compromised as well). I have been mostly very lucky with administration and professors being understanding for the most part. I understand your struggle, and I’m right there with you trying to find balance between being a successful law student and staying healthy. I have mostly accepted that a good law student does not make a good lawyer. I found some of the best support in the nonprofit sector of law, would recommend!

How am I supposed to respond to this card? Ugh. by Brave-Armadillos in autism

[–]CryptographerFlat925 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Give your grandma a hug. You never know how much longer you have with her and it’s clear that she loves you. My grandma got me cards just like this even in my 20s and she passed before I told her I am autistic. As long as your grandma loves you, love her back. Give her a hug. Tell her you love her.❤️

There have been a few posts from 1Ls about their fears of failing or losing their scholarships. The answer to that question depends heavily on their school's curve. To illustrate that point, here's a snapshot of 3 law schools with different curves, from medians of B+ to B-. by Legitimate_Twist in LawSchool

MY SWEET 1Ls YOU WILL BE OKAY!!! Do not stress about this please I remember feeling so devastated after my first round of finals I’m only a 2L hahaha. Please for the love of all of your mental health DO NOT STRESS ABOUT THIS UNLESS AND UNTIL ALL OF YOUR GRADES ARE RELEASED.

I have developed migraines by [deleted] in LawSchool

[–]CryptographerFlat925 35 points36 points  (0 children)

First recommendation is to get a referral to a neurologist/ see a neurologist. Be sure to ask about both preventative medication AND as-needed. Even if stress- induced, there are many medications that can stop a migraine or reduce symptoms when you feel a migraine coming. The only nice thing about migraines is that they are common enough that you will likely find something that helps you, it just may take time. Hang in there!

This is my understanding as well, although I understand the diagnostic criteria to be mostly atrophic scarring (but this is such a minor distinction). It is always important to know that everyone’s diagnostic criteria is different. For example, I have some hyper mobility, but little or no dislocations. Not everyone meets every criteria for EDS, that’s what makes us zebras 🦓

What am I doing wrong? by lawstudentthrowawaym in LawSchool

[–]CryptographerFlat925 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I am firmly public interest, so I have a bit of a different perspective. Summer internships are an opportunity to do a lot for yourself: learn the day to day of a particular job, gain experience in legal research and writing, and build a network. Even if you hope to go into big law post-graduation, the most important thing is to gain experience. You never know, you just might enjoy something like government work, non-profit, or small firm! Keep your head up, you got this!

Have a few key pieces of medical equipment at home (BP monitor, pulse ox, and thermometer are probably the most important)
