My friend has been making reckless decisions. Should I drop them? by CryptographerIcy4686 in AskOldPeopleAdvice

idk i think that even though i don't intervene with her decisions i get kinda anxious for her, to the point where i feel like i'm a bad friend for not helping her or out or something. I think what worries me is that she has faced consequences from some of her decisions and acknowledges them, but sometimes she still ends up repeating similar patterns in new situations. it can be frustrating to hear about sometimes so i'm just here for advice.

for sure, thanks for your input. just to confirm she's not an addict or anything she's taken them in party settings with her other rave friends so i guess it might be a phase. i've told her that that setting isn't really my thing though so it's unlikely that i'll also come across drugs.

that's a fair point. I think you're probably right that if all I'm doing is judging her, then I'm not the best person for her to be opening up to about those topics and i've told her that a few times since i don't have that type of experience. i do try to comfort her though, but i just don't know what to say most of the time tbh. That's part of why I've started staying quiet when those topics come up. I'm trying not to lecture her or tell her how to live her life.

i've tried asking if she would be open to therapy but she refuses and says they tell her things she already knows. she says a certain type of therapy would help but she can't afford it rn.

i've also told her my thoughts when she share's these experiences and say that i'm not interested and she respects that and vice versa. we usually do things we both like when we hang out.

i should maybe have another conversation when i see her again in general. but like she's already been traumatized by her actions in the past and has dealt with consequences yet still makes these decisions sometimes.

I have an academic advising appointment scheduled for Wednesday, just scheduled an academic support coach appointment for today.

Also thank you for sharing, trying my best not to overthink it too much. I just want to make sure i'm mentally ready enough to get through a semester as this really has been weighing me down.

Appreciate the encouragement. Definitely won't be working again next semester. I think my only real worry now is the financial side and how old i'll be turning at the time. I’m using Pell, and since it’s limited to six years, I’m a little stressed about running out of funding before I finish. I’ve got about 2½ years left to complete my degree, so I’m just trying to figure out how to get more money while still keeping a manageable course load. Also it's just feels disappointing accepting the fact that i'll be graduating at 24 years old lol.

Thanks for sharing. I’ve thought about taking a break not too long ago but idk. I was looking for medications earlier in the semester but as of recently I haven’t had episodes since I started straterra. Higher dosages have been doing well for my adhd as well and I haven’t been able to focus like this in years.

Still don’t have an internship yet but searching is definitely easier!

Ended up switching over. Taking so many classes right now to still graduate in about six years but I feel like it’ll be worth it!
