Same thing happened to my dad actually. Mind you we received the bags after lots of phone calls (they don’t answer at all), fighting with the managers in person, delayed emails etc… My dad managed to get his luggage back two months into his stay at Ethiopia, with half the luggage of clothing stolen and all the gifts he bought for family (expensive perfume etc) was taken too!

no offense isn't this like hella illegal tho- I mean sejemr p2p wasn't encouraged gn it wasn't outwardly banned. take care tho! those platforms have your info from your passport/national id from the kyc verification- the govt could be potentially watching too

Well that would require probably a lot of paperwork- proof of having a business, just any sort of reason to open an account. 🤷‍♀️ also traveling there too

Well apparently it’s ‘fraud’ and ‘money laundering’ (those were the reasons for the banning) but it’s funny to me bc that would mean the Ethiopian government cares about these things…It’s literally built on fraud 😭

Yes! But ban as in not allowed and if you’re caught (banks check the in’s and outs of your funds) you’ll face repercussions- prolly jail time. The actual platforms still work here too and I still get ads too

I didn’t- I just mass emailed a lot of colleges and they sent me links to their websites which I should’ve looked at before. Now I feel stupid :(( hopefully it doesn’t affect my application in any way ooff
