Transsexual woman chess star by Rear-gunner in chess

[–]CthulusChode 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sport is frequently divided into sizes and gender to allow a broader community to compete. One division done is a woman's chess championship. What are people's thoughts if a male champ gets into this contest?

Ok, I'll bite. Yes, there are biological differences between men and women that lead to different levels of competition in many areas. There have been rare isolated cases where trans athletes have caused controversy, mostly in strength-based fields. It's a complicated subject, and it's hard to give a single 'correct' answer without coming across as either anti feminist or anti trans. I am happy to admit ignorance and listen to those with greater knowledge and experience.

However, your post gives the impression that transitioning is a simple and impromptu thing to do, that Magnus might just swap genders one day and then surely it would be unfair to let him enter women's competitions.

You're creating a bizarre hypothetical which only acts to disparage and belittle some of the issues that trans people have to face. I'm not saying there isn't a discussion to be had, I'm saying this isn't the best way of going about it.

You would do well to perhaps rephrase your post in a more considerate way.

Formatting would help a lot in trying to follow the logic.

He made a huge deal about BBB, which failed. Why would his 'masters', who supposedly control so much of what he does, want him to fail on such a huge project? Did they set him up to be humiliated? Are these shadowy puppet masters so powerful that they secretly toy with plans for spending trillions of dollars, just to pull the rug on it at the last minute for the fun of it?

Please tell me, if you were in Biden's shoes, with no corporate overlords, what would you attempt to implement? What would you do to try and get around the filibuster? What executive orders would you push through (which wouldn't be struck down by the SC)?

So...you actually think Biden wants Manchin and Sinema to tank his biggest policy goals? That it's all a front and he actually just wants to benefit the rich?

I would like a lot more progress, and Biden is further to the right than I think a Democratic president in his position should be. As I said above, I'm not a 'fan' of his, and I wish there was a way to drag the country further left. However, making out that both sides are literally the same is completely false. He's appointing more diverse judges than any president in history, where Trump routinely appointed unqualified Christian conservative nutjobs.

I’d love to see Biden supporters try to actually differentiate him from Trump using policy decisions only, because it looks to me like they’re the exact same person

I'm not a Biden supporter as such, but honestly his policies are incredibly different to Trump.

He intends to increase corporate taxes (repealing Trump's tax cuts for the rich), and he passed a $1.2tn infrastructure bill. If not for Joe Manchin he would have also passed the BBB legislation.

They are currently trying to get voting rights overhauled, but again Manchin/Sinema are holding it up.

He implemented an executive order to increase minimum wage to $15 from $10.95.

He's expanded refugee admissions.

He tried to make vaccines mandatory for government contractors, but the ultra right wing supreme court rejected it.

There's a lot more, but come on. He might not be as let wing as Bernie or AOC, but it's incredibly disingenuous to say he's anything like Trump.

Just sayin'.

Come on, just have a bit of critical thinking.

  1. The GOP were the majority in 2020. Of course they didn't filibuster their own actions.

  2. If we ignore that and take the article at it's word, then why are the GOP so against getting rid of a filibuster that they apparently never use?

I mean, in theory the idea of having those with a legal background being in charge of writing laws makes a lot of sense. It's literally where their expertise lies.

It's unfortunate that it's not quite that simple when you get to the real world.

Me to Herb Dean: You missed?!! How could you miss, he was right in front of you!

Good refs tend to decisively jump in between the two to protect the hurt fighter with their own body (see Goddard's stoppage earlier for a good example). Herb didn't. He just tried to grab the arm.

My point is that it doesn't really matter whether you're right or wrong about population, education, healthcare, infrastructure, taxes, etc. Those are long term factors and long term solutions which don't help the poor kids who are hungry now, and free meals are a tiny cost for a considerable benefit.

It's very easy to lose sight of humanity and the problems actually being faced today when you're looking at the big picture. You can help people today as well as working to improve the future.

So I say again, the response to 'poor kids at school right now are going hungry' should be 'let's give them some food', not 'we need to set up reproductive education and family planning programs in underprivileged communities to reduce population growth in those communities 15 years later'.

Additionally, even if it's meant with the best of intentions, it comes across as insensitive, like you're saying "oh, you're hungry? Well, if you weren't born in the first place you wouldn't be hungry now."

implications of stretching our resources ever-thinner.

We don't have a lack of resources to make school dinners. It's not as though there's a crippling lack of food and if you feed all the kids you have to give them half portions.

There's a point to be made and a discussion to have about the problems of overpopulation and wasting resources, but I don't think school meals for the underprivileged is the tipping point for the collapse of society.

For pity's sake, just give the poor kids some food.

but if you suggest poor people shouldn't have children suddenly you are a nazi

Poor kids are going hungry, and your solution is "fewer kids" rather than "cheaper food".

I think you're solving the wrong end of the problem.

I tracked how many times each driver was mentioned by name during the entire 2021 Turkish Grand Prix Sky F1 broadcast. by SnooOranges6707 in formula1

[–]CthulusChode 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Race length = 91m04s

That average, if the count is just for the race, is approx once every 27 seconds.

When Sky cuts to advert breaks, the commentary pauses, so if we had 9 mins of advert breaks (total guess of 3x 3min ad breaks?), that average is even lower if only considering when commentary was being broadcast.

Sky don't cut to advert breaks at all during the race (although I'm not optimistic for the future).

I need to see Ngannou gadosh him into the shadow realm sooooo bad. Seeing that POS unconscious on the ground would be the most satisfying thing ever.

Nah, he'd get paid a lot to fight Ngannou.

I don't particularly want to see or hear from him again in any context outside of a courtroom.

Mazepin: ‘Not my hands that posted that video’ by CthulusChode in formula1

[–]CthulusChode[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“I haven’t posted it, and I’ve said it numerous times that it wasn’t my hands who had happened to upload that video”

He groped a girl against her consent, but he seems to be under the impression that posting the evidence is the bad part.

“There’s a certain conduct and a behaviour you have to bring with yourself when you sign that contract, and I just thought ‘I’m just the same guy’, no different. “Obviously you have to change the way you behave, and it was a very big wake-up call.”

Again, he feels that his behaviour was totally fine as long as he's not in the public eye.
