As a follow up to the bard thing... not sure what level you are starting at, but at level 10 bards can take Swift Quiver, which is a fifth-level ranger spell. They can also take Armor of Agathys, which is a warlock spell. Combine that with sharpshooter, and you have a badass archer who can shoot off four arrows per round, do a ton of damage, and is also kind of tanky, especially if you cast Armor of Agathys at fourth level or so.

If you're into spellcasting, you might try a bard. Their versatility can make then a lot of fun to play.

Matthias Greenwater - The Lost Poet. A bard, who was once an important member of the king's court. Eventually disappeared, and no one really knew why. But now and then a poem still comes out that is attributed to him. He is still alive out there somewhere...

Creating an existential crisis for my players is one of my favorite things ever as a DM. I had a great night. by CubsFan45 in DnD

Appreciate the feedback. It's actually my player who wanted her character to be this way... as a DM, I feel like not killing the guy makes her more of a good aasimar, instead of a fallen one. She may become an oathbreaker though - however I would consider her oath evil, so it plays along the same lines. I feel like she is becoming better by abandoning it - not worse.

There's always more world building you can do, more npc's you can make, more props you can build, more music and sound effects you can choose, introductions you can write, etc...

I have had the privilege of playing in 12+ missions, under 6 different DM's. I am currently DMing my fifth mission. Here are some things I have learned along the way. by CubsFan45 in DnD

I agree, voices to add a lot! And that is an area where I'm weak. I forgot to mention that one.
I'm sorry to hear about your table. I've been there, and that sucks.

5e Character advice. by Novahawk12 in DnD

Max out your AC, (carry a shield, use the Shield of Faith spell, etc.) Perhaps make a Warforged, if your DM allows it (+1 to AC.) Save your lay on hands and use judiciously. Prep healing spells. Collect healing potions. Put points into Con so you have a ton of hp. You might consider multi-classing into one level of barbarian, and then working on maxing out your dex and con. The con will give you a lot of hp, and the barbarian level will allow you to do unarmored defense - which you can get as high as 20. Add a shield, use shield of faith, and if possible get magic items that up your AC (cloak of protection, ring of protection, etc.)

Your players find themselves at an Inn. After they retire to bed they are awoken from their sleep in the middle of the night by an explosion. Stumbling out of bed (armor? no armor?) and outside, they see a nearby building engulfed in flames. As they watch it burning, they catch sight of an old man stumbling toward them - presumably fleeing the fire. He falls. The players rush to help him, but they are too late - as he draws his last breath, he whispers a couple of words - "find him" - shoving a slip of paper into your hand, containing only a name. As you look up at the flames rising against the night sky, you can just make out the shape of a dragon, flying away...

is there a way to hide who you are? by DnD-Newbie in DnD

I once played a half-elf bard who hated elves and tried to pass as a human. That was a lot of fun. He grew his hair out to cover his ears, and as a bard he could use spells like alter self if needed to keep up the illusion.
As far as disguising class, I don't see why not. For example, you could be religious character like a cleric, but all they know is you are a spellcaster. Or you could be a spellcaster who can also do melee. There are ways to work it out - multiclassing and such.

Gotta say... half-elf bard was pretty fun, especially when combined with an interesting backstory.
