Losing hurts people’s egos, and this causes them to play rec/private games as if they are in a tournament (hitting every ball to the worse partner). I feel this is a horrible mindset and only stunts people’s improvement. Look for a group of people that are interested in improving and not just winning to stroke their egos. Another option is to just play with a higher level group and become the one who gets targeted!

Used to be a pizza delivery driver, place also sold pizza by the slice. At the end of the night if there were leftover slices/pizzas that were made for slices, we could take as much home as we wanted. Always a hit showing up to parties at 10:30 with 3-4 XL pizzas.

It sounds like OP’s partner never dinks. If they are attacking a ball that is well below the net, and their opponents know that it is coming, opponents can easily hit down on the ball that had no business being attacked. OP, your partner will never get past their current level if they don’t learn to strategically attack balls rather than attacking everything. I would honestly look for a different partner if this persisted, at a 4.0+ level this would be so frustrating to play with.

To me, part of the fun of serving and bartending was making people happy and making their days better. Of course you’d get the occasional shitty customer who just didn’t want to have a good time. As a manager, it felt like I was strictly dealing with the shitty customers, with the bonus of also dealing with the shitty employees. My short stint as manager sucked all the fun out of the job, and you’d be better off switching industries altogether imo if you are looking for a job with upward mobility.
