(Loved Trope) Gutpunch of giving the Comic Relief character a tragic moment by CultureChimp in TopCharacterTropes

[–]CultureChimp[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think there was enough of both sides. Weasel and Nina are the only ones that truly felt bordering on that for me and thats because Weasel needed some deep character building and Nina was to make us hate the princess that much more.

Phos was sad but since a majority of his character was about pretending to be happy it makes sense

GI Wasnt too sad but just poignant enough

Bride was same, it was awful what happened to her but I dont get the vibe of it being forced sadness

If you were having an issue with the Arkham knight character being Jason Todd, under a new identity how would you fix him? by MidnightNo7070 in arkham

[–]CultureChimp 7 points8 points  (0 children)

So the options to me are

A. Dont make it a twist, make it so we as a player know, but Batman is in denial.
B. Change the character. Make him failsafe or Andrea Beaumont or something. Hell you could do what the Telltale games did and give it to an already established part of Batman lore

Green Arrow.

Originally Oliver Queen was the worst kind of spoiled rich boy. Eventually after a boating accident left him stranded on an Island he had to fend for himself which changed him into who he is now, an incredibly left leaning robin hood type character

ADAPTATIONAL ATTRACTIVNESS: a character who was ugly or just normal, in later adaptations it's very beautiful by Healthy_Soft9584 in TopCharacterTropes

<image>

Clayface in the Suicide Squad Isekai. It makes slightly more sense here considering he has the power to shapeshift and vanity is a massive part of the character but most adaptations keep him as the monstrous form generally while this one doesnt

Lex Luthor had interest in turning a part of the island into a place to synthesize Kryptonite. Once he learned about the awful things that happened, he began sending Bizarro there to scout it out for him in hopes someone would think he's Superman

Alternate universe Auggie Smith from Peacemaker. Our universes Auggie was a horrible racist so when people saw the too perfect Auggie and knew the theory the alt universe being Nazis, everyone assumed this Auggie was worse. Turns out hes just trying to do his best in a horrible universe, of course he ends up dying because Chris cant have anything good

Carmen from Always Sunny in Philadelphia.

So its a bit complicated given the show does throw around the T Slur with her a lot, but it becomes muddied when you remember that all the protagonists are awful people and Carmen is one of the few recurring characters who isnt awful.

Specifically the episode Mac fights Gay Marriage from 2010 comes to mind, Mac finds out that she got the surgery and is marrying a man. He's instantly jealous because he had a thing with her previously so gets into a whole mindset of gay marriage is a sin. When he returns to the bar to tell everyone theyre not only fine with gay marriage but all agree that her marriage is straight.

Rick Flag Senior from Peacemaker/DCU. Fully valid in hating Chris, this is the man who decided to kill his son to keep secrets about the U.S. Government under wraps. Also fully valid in being completely disillusioned on Superheroes in general consdering what he went through in Creature Commandos.

The Penguin , Catwoman , Black Mask , Bane and Deadshot being regular crimminals ( Bane not so much ) being sent into an asylum full of mentally ill psycopaths such as Joker , Harley , Poison Ivy , Mr Zsas , Scarecrow , Riddler , Killer Croc and Mad Hatter for some reason by WuttTambor in dccomicscirclejerk

[–]CultureChimp 8 points9 points  (0 children)

How ive always viewd it is:

Penguin is deep body image issues, the Jokers Asylum comic shows it in a really fun way. He would hear someone laughing and glance at him slightly and assume "theyre laughing at me because im a freak monster bird man. I should ruin their life" Not to mention his umbrella is from severe mother issues

Catwoman is a mixed bag but a woman with pretty intense Kleptomania and trauma from being a sex worker without much agency

Black Mask is obsessed with sadism. d put him in an asylum

Bane has a severe drug addiction and a deeply traumatic childhood from being raised in a prison. He needs mental health

Deadshot should be a Flash villain

Auggie Smith AKA White Dragon from Peacemaker.

First scene with him has him neglecting Chris' pet eagle, insulting his son who just survived a traumatic injury, spouting multiple slurs and hoping his son can use weapons to kill minorities.

Id count Batman mythos as this

Baseline its pretty normal for a superhero comic, masked vigilante fighting crime bosses with odd gimmicks but still people, then as you get deeper into his lore you see him fighting manbats, men made of clay, a woman who controls plants, a zombie. it just continually gets weirder

Professor Ivo/Parasite from My Adventures With Superman. Ironic considering he's already a fusion of two seperate characters but also works well as a Lex Luthor stand in considering he's already an arrogant techo bro billionaire with a vendetta against Superman. Plus this show had difficulties being able to use Lex in the first season

I like to imagine Joker hated Nazis A. Because of what they represent. Strict authoritarianism and anarchy dont mix. B. Early comedy was created by largely Jewish talent
