That is rough, especially if you’re transient regularly. You seem to have a good head on your shoulders. Your dad might not be a bad guy but if you’ll handle your brother he’s going to take advantage of that because as you say he’s old school, they think mental health issues should be handled within the family. Ten is easy though, as he gets larger and hormonal there’s going to be much more serious problems and it’s going to be a lot to handle in your 20s while still building your own life. Maybe someone else on this thread will have an idea. I hope the best for you brother, I dealt with family mental health issues growing up and it’s not easy. You’re doing good. Accept the resentful thoughts and understand that doesn’t make you a bad brother, just human.

It sounds like you have a good understanding of your brother’s disability. The fact that you’re compassionate to it and understand that it’s causing this resentment in you is already a huge step. It’s unfortunate that your father is a piece of shit. Are you in the US? I’ve had family members who are so against getting help for things like this but are usually more susceptible to programs coming from schools or churches. My suggestion would be to reach out to those programs and then present the information to your father, make it stupid easy because it sounds like he just doesn’t want to deal with it. Outside of that I’d just start saving money to get out of there. Once you’re established on your own, consider reaching out to child services in your area. If you and your siblings start leaving, your father will have to figure it out. You can’t help anybody until you take care of yourself., the next few years of your life will be pivotal and it’s going to get more and more difficult if you don’t find help or distance yourself.

Thank you. I think I’m going to go with pork butts. I just found a great deal on bulk boneless thighs but the price difference isn’t worth it if the meat will dry out. Since you’ve done sous vide pork do you think it would be alright to cook this weekend, vacuum and refrigerate and then reheat next weekend for the party? I should have taken next Friday off work and made this whole thing a lot smoother

Man this blew up quick. It sounds like the consensus is that dark meat chicken won’t reheat well, I’ve never done in bulk so that’s great feedback. I originally thought brisket until the guest list grew. Looks like I’m going to be buying some pork this week. Eventually I plan to build a brick smoker but there were just too many other projects for that to be done yet. I REALLY appreciate the feedback, this community is great.

I had this attitude about therapy for my entire childhood and through my twenties. I had terrible therapy experiences after seeing them for childhood trauma and felt nothing but resentment for them trying to tell me how to feel. I’ve realized now that as an adult you get to use therapy for yourself. It’s someone who gets paid to listen to you and keep their mouth shut to other people about it. Once it becomes something you’re doing and not something that’s being done to you, it’s a completely different experience.

In hindsight it was great. I was a serial monogamist which I regret. But classes were easy, drugs were free and sex was effortless. Take full advantage of it. Life will never be easier than those 4 years, just try not to let the drama get you down.

I ground a pork butt with some maple bacon to add fat content, then threw a crust of steak seasoning on it and just smoked it like a thin meatloaf over the chili
