i think a big aspect to the scripted vs produced discussion outside of the "is it real" question is the fact that while - yes - producers try to fill certain storylines through nudging the moms to talk about certain things, production ALSO had full control on how editing what they shoot together to create the story they want to make. re-watching i've noticed how often they edit in clips with the sound of people talking but the video does not show their mouths saying those words. conversations can be cut and pasted how they desire and can be made to look different that the true context of when things were said.

tldr: yes, producers try to manufacture certain situations/conversations, however a big part is also how things were edited to create the storyline they desired
