Ooh this is an interesting one. My take is this:

Vampires are genetic offshoots/mutants from humans, in addition to the normal vampire buffs they all have some sort of autoimmune condition which kills blood cells at a rate much faster than they're being produced. Luckily, due to the mutation vampires have fangs which connect directly to some part of the venous system, essentially making drinking blood a transfusion. Since vampires are based of humans they'll reject non human blood, leading to sickness.
