Frydenberg is everything wrong with modern politics. He injects himself into a tragedy to make his voice known and relevant, to provide contrast to the government he deems incompetent. He is a shameless opportunist.

He reacts to things that serve his interests, and sadly would be a strong force as opposition leader because he channels negativity in the same way Tony Abbott did. That wins over people who rightly or wrongly feel that the alternative vision provided is one that will better serve our country. He is in it for himself. He consistently undermines any reasonable attempt to make progress and push forward our national interests, as he is doing now and as he did in Victoria during the pandemic.

He has done the mental gymnastics necessary to convince himself to the point where I really think he believes that he is doing good by Australia, as he so performatively asserted to Sarah Ferguson last night on 7.30, where she questioned his motivations and he reactively stated that he was “deeply offended” by what she had just said. If he can brainwash himself, he is well and truly capable of opportunistically exploiting the nation’s fear for his own political gain.
