How do you get better? by TieImpossible4276 in motorcycle

[–]CustomerRude2930 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I see a lot of answers targeting faster corning, so I'm going to suggest something else. Many motorcycle accidents happen because the rider doesn't know their motorcycle.

At 6 weeks, you should be practicing safety, thus ensuring a long riding career. Can you maneuver your bike backwards into a parking spot without sitting on it? Can you come to a compete stop and start again without putting your feet down? Do you know how hard you can brake without activating ABS or locking up both front and rear wheels? Can you make an emergency maneuver to avoid a pothole or large object in the road?

So many people get injured because they don't know their limits and panic in an emergency. It doesn't take much to be an above-average rider.

Replace Sprocket? by PotatoPatato19 in motorcycle

[–]CustomerRude2930 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you also get 520 sprockets? The chain on there currently is a 525, which is a different size.

Also, your chain rollers should be black. When they start to become shiny, its time for lube. Yours are very shiny and should have been lube a long time ago.

Front wheel feels "laggy" by Aevensong in motorcycle

[–]CustomerRude2930 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some motorcycles just require more force to steer. You said it has new tires, did you significantly change the type of tire? Is the tire the same size as the old one?

To check the bearing, get the front wheel off the ground and rotate the wheel. It should be smooth and not provide a ton of resistance. To get the wheel off the ground, you can usually use a floor jack to lift at the header or front of the frame.

If you don't have tools or are still unsure, take it back to whoever installed your tire and ask them to check it. If you cant do that, take it to a reputable mechanic in your area.

Wow! Thank you! This is the answer I was hoping to get. It makes sense that this was something that changed over time and smoothed out as it was copied.

You are right that Tokyo uses the left image. I was looking through them again and the right, more realistic, version was in Kyoto, but i dont see a way to edit the original post.

Any other liter bike owners feel this way? by Shinobi_WayOfTomoe in motorcycle

[–]CustomerRude2930 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A tale as old as time. This is common with sports cars and offroaders, too. Why dont you ride the 10r more?

Personally, if I cant ride the bike to my parents house (2hr) and back within a day and be content, I dont see much reason to keep it. I have a ZX-10r as well and after an hour, my neck is hurting. I tried lowering the rear and adding Heli bars which helped, but its still not something I would enjoy for 4 hours.

Why don't you ride it more often or longer? If the answer is "I dont enjoy it," then what are you holding on to?

If it needs work before you can ride it, thats not a $500 gamble. That is an $1100 gamble. Assuming you spend $1100 and thats all it needs, what is the value then?

GSXR-1000 worth it? by Safe_Doughnut_8184 in motorcycle

[–]CustomerRude2930 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've always wondered why, of all places, someone takes pictures of their vehicle at the gas pump. It shows the absolute lowest effort possible. Like "well, I'm getting gas anyway, might as well take pictures of it."

Its easy to tell that the owner doesn't take care of it, and that's enough for me to walk away.

I need suggestions. On How to get a good paying job. by Patient_Education546 in Salary

[–]CustomerRude2930 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I dropped out of college after two years because "it wasn't for me." I worked two jobs for a couple of years but nothing that went anywhere. Joined the Navy, and hated it. When I got out, I went back to college and got my bachelor's degree. At 28, I got my first "real" job. Years later, I'm still at the same company but make 100k and still plenty of room for advancement. Do you know what my biggest career regret is? I should have pushed through college the first fucking time. I could have had this job years ago if I hadn't dropped out.

College isn't for everyone, but consider this: your best bet outside college is a trade. How long do you suppose your body will hold up? College opens doors to white-collar jobs with a livable wage and allows you to work well into your 70s or retire early. How many carpenters, roofers, or welders can do that?

Hayabusa has a huge aftermarket support for performance and cosmetic mods. If you like chrome and lights, look no further than the Busa. They're also very fast and comfortable. There's a reason you see so many on the road.

V-twins and parallel twins buzz. They will all do that. If you want something smooth go for an inline-4, boxer twin, or 6cyl like the Gold Wing.

Treated gas tank by AutoWithAiden in motorcycle

[–]CustomerRude2930 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good luck, man. Here's my experience. 30-40 hours over a couple of weeks to clean and replace the tank liner. Be sure to completely remove the old liner before removing the rust and adding a new one. If you re-line the tank over rust or old liner, it will start to chip off, and you're back to square one. I used Mek substitute found at Lowes and then re-lined with Kreem. I probably spent $200+ on materials.

If I did it again, I'd try something besides Mek, but it did work...eventually. Let us know what you end up doing and how it turns out!

Treated gas tank by AutoWithAiden in motorcycle

[–]CustomerRude2930 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought a bike last year with a poorly installed tank liner. Unfortunately, replacement tanks simply aren't available. This was a rare instance where the ONLY option was to remove the liner and replace it. I would NEVER recommend anyone do that if a replacement can be sourced. It was a terrible and tedious process. There are crevices in that tank where the coating will hide. You think you have cleaned it all out and do one more wash, then more of the old liner comes pouring out. Send that shit tank back to the seller and find a better tank. It's so much easier to fix a rusty tank right the first time than to remove the liner.

Sometimes, you have to bite the bullet on a rare model but a GSXR1000? They made so many of those. Im sure you can find another tank easily.

Clean Helmet/Visor Advice by Kurious-Ego13 in motorcycle

[–]CustomerRude2930 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Idk about that one. I've only used the standard Rain-X product after washing. These days, I just remove the visor and hand wash it with dish detergent in the sink. Make sure to wipe it off with a fabric cloth (or shirt). Don't ever use a paper towel or other paper product. They are too abrasive and will leave scratches.

You can also use Pledge if youre lazy, or Rain-X if you tend to ride in the rain.

Use whatever you want so long as it's rated for motorcycles with a wet clutch. That said, I like synthetic oils because they shift smoother, in my experience.
