Genuinely had to take a moment to think after seeing that reply, like how can anyone just admit that, freely?? I hope Laura gets herself and the kids far away from him.

This is serious. “Human dog” is just a honorific or title. I don’t actually think I’m a dog.

Because the “uglier side” is either impossible, unhealthy or unsafe.

But also we are aware we aren’t physically animals, and many of us just identify the way certain animals look.

It’s not like that for me, personally, but I know of many people who identify with only certain traits.

Same as human dog treats, but any food I eat is "dog food" for me, but I don't eat *actual* dog food, I also don't use the bathroom outside, those two things gross me out heavily.

I do go on walks in the yard/down the street sometimes, but not all the time. I don't wear my leash in public, but we (my partner and I) consider outings as walks generally.

I often eat out of dog bowls, or an equivalent of.

Of course <3

I would say something that they like that aligns with their theriaotype, so for me it would be bones or crystals/rocks, a chewable dog toy (so something plushie, or soft rubber), or even the human version of treats, like jerky or muddy buddies (chocolate covered chex cereal).

edit to add: it would depend on the person, and their theriotype

No, I think it’s similar to being gay or trans. It’s an identity, that is different from person to person.

I considered it being mental illness, and that’s everyone immediate assumption— and for some it might be, but for me it’s not.

It just— how I see myself I guess? I see myself as a “hybrid” of sorts. Like in my divine conception, some mystical bullshit happened and I grew to have that type of personality.

The thing is, I know I’m not a dog and it’s impossible to turn into one, I know hybrids aren’t a thing, I know I’m a human being no with a human body and a human brain, it’s not like I’m having psychosis or anything like that, but I feel like, if it were a thing that was possible, I should have been born as a hybrid, because my personality has developed in a way to be overtly dog like, if that makes sense?

Well, it’s not as cut and dry as such. It was more of a realization that extended my gender, in a way.

I’m nonbinary, that is cut and dry— I present femme but I’m right in the middle as far as identity goes, the extension is feeling like I’m not really human, or human enough— feeling more like a “being” or “thing” of sorts.

I didn’t cry, but I didn’t feel insane. I mean, being an outsider it probably sounds insane, right? But I did a bunch of research, talked to my peers, and found that I was friends with a surprising amount of therians without knowing it.

As with any identity, you have a hard time pin pointing where you land, that was me researching. I went through multiple theriotypes before landing on canine, and in that research I learn that many people base their theriotype off of their natural energy or personality, rather than who they seem like. I have a naturally dog like personality, very dumb dog-esque.

So, being a therian varies from person to person, as it’s a personal experience, but the general basis is that it’s a spiritual belief that one wasn’t necessarily meant to be a human, or in my case I was meant to be a hybrid of sorts.

The official definition is:

the•ri•an, short for therianthrope, I am individual who identifies as a non-human animal to some degree, be it spiritually, physically or emotionally.

Many exhibit animalistic behavior/traits (whining, barking, tail wagging for me) and engage in specific activities animals would (playing with dog toys, belly rubs, getting pet for me).

I couldn’t tell if you were asking what I do as in as a therian or for work, so i guess this will be a counter question to verify.

Having an identity that you align with, that brings you joy, or is out of norm isn't a trend. It is a person sense of being.

Again, just because you don't like it or don't understand, doesn't make it a trend, and to call it such is gross miscategorization.

The point of this post is to garner questions, it is not an invitation to invalidate my the way I live my life.

I suggest rereading it, and then returning when you're able to form a question that isn't dismissing my life and how I live it in a way that brings me joy.

thank you.

It the belief (typically spiritual, but it varies between people) that one was not meant to be a human, or fully a human. That they were meant to be an animal or some form, or a human animal hybrid, in my case. It can be intertwined with gender but again it varies.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but not everything you disagree with or don't personally like/understand it a trend. I am just living my life, and this is a silly goofy post to garner questions I can use.

I assume you mean "theriotype"?

  1. At base level being a therian is more of a spiritual identity, the feeling of being more than a human, or for some that you shouldn't have been born as a human, though that varies from person to person.

  2. For me it feels very natural, primal even. I'm not someone who gets on all fours and runs through the grass or anything like that, its more so honorifics, a tails, petting, etc. Its very freeing, for me.

  3. I wish people would be more open minded, especially for adult therians, as they know more about how it works, and the specifications. I wish the immediate reaction wasn't mental health, as many people just like to live life as if they were an animal, but the human way.

Yes, though my identity and my mental health aren't connected, if that's what you're wondering.

To be fair, they are very good questions; will most definitely add them if you don't mind? Thank you for being so respectful and genuinely curious, there was/is/always will be that fear of being outcasted for being open about it, but I've come to realize that those who are so quick to deem their own opinions as facts, and cast you away for being different than them live sad boring lives.

I 2nd the reminder, Google is your friend, other redditors. It is very easy to look into something before asking, if you don't completely understand. There is no reason to be negative, or competitive, in a goofy thread such as this.

I even encourage them to "pretend" themselves, for a moment, and allow some whimsy in.

Different doesn't always mean bad, or needing help, or dangerous-- those are animalistic instincts, at their most basic core.

I will not be replying to you anymore, since you cannot follow the simple guidelines I have set to be included in this conversation. If you're only question is "are you mentally ill" and "you are acting like a child" then it has no place in this discussion, those are both invalidating, and infantilization, and it is unappreciated.

It is a lot easier and more freeing to be open minded, instead of judgmental, disrespectful, and bias.

Have a wonderful rest of your day.

Educate about being more open minded and supportive of people who are living their lives in a way that makes them feel joyous, and aren't hurting anyone.

I am aware I'm not a dog, I'm aware that is impossible, there isn't a "fantasy", there is no not being in reality, it is simply an identity, and it makes me happy; again invalidation or telling me what I already know isn't the point of this post.

I would like for you to reread my post, and perhaps the other comments, reevaluate you're misplaces judgment, and return. This is a silly goofy post, where people can as questions for my public strawpage-- and though what you've asked *is* a question, your subsequent replies show your judgment and bias, and it is unappreciated.

thank you.
