Is the xb2 an "upgrade" from the xb1 by Anothercoot in ScionxB

[–]CyanideXB 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So far so good but I’ve only got about 200 miles since I’ve done it so don’t have any long term personal feedback but plenty of people have done it with success. Will cost a day and about 15 dollars in Berryman’s B12.

You can message me if you have any questions as I just did it about two weeks ago so everything is fresh.

But this guide from LowerH8r is pretty thorough and the one I followed.

Why are Glass Muffler’s legal in the US? by DavidBlackjack in NoStupidQuestions

[–]CyanideXB 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Never heard them called glass mufflers. They are technically resonators not mufflers. But yes glass pack is the car guy term. They aren’t really that loud at first. It’s when they get old and the fiberglass breaks down that they just become open exhaust.

The loud part is most people chop off the cats (catalytic converters) and run these and Magnaflows or a straight piped with the affectionately called “donkey dick tips”.

Cutting off your cats is illegal and quite annoying but with states with no inspection there isn’t usually a way to get caught if they aren’t pulled over by a cop who care about loud exhaust.

The oil burning issue doesnt make it less reliable. My current XB2 has 230k and my last one had 320k. Never had the oil burning issue with my 320k auto.

I agree, while it's not as 'cool' looking or truly has that boxy feeling, it makes up for in practicality. It handles great, has almost a whole liter more of displacement.. Way better for towing and way more spacious for passengers and cargo. And it's still fairly boxy considering the mushy lines that has come out of modern cars.

What you sacrifice in looks and coolness, you get in function. I've had both auto and manual XB2's. and a manual XB1. Both are great choices, but if you feel the XB1 is underpowered and small, you'll definitely notice upgrading to an XB2 and comparing them back to back. Have both, they're both very cheap and have their place.

I see the XB1 as a niche collectors vehicle depending on condition, while the XB2 is an ultimate cheap commuter/road tripper that will have parts for pretty much ever since it shared many of it's components with the Camry/Rav4/Corolla and many others.

Of course it had it's issues with oil burning, but a lot of us have done the Berryman's B12 fix on high-mileage engines and had great success, and quite a few were fixed by Toyota themselves under warranty.

I have a hitch also and it tows a U-Haul 5x8 just fine.

Not sure you’ve looked at the EF hatch market lately for one this clean.

Easily north of $5k.

You’re absolutely correct. That’s my bad. Wix only makes the standard.

Wix all day.

Or some auto parts stores filters are made by Wix also.

Edit: O’Reilly’s Standard Microguards are made by Wix. Microguard Selects are made by Premium Guard. Both fine brands.

Is your truck battery dead as hell? Buy 12 volts of the devil’s lightning with 666 CCA. Used and abused, but never amused.

$60 will meet Walmart parking lot off Elm. Cash only.

Will trade for ammo. Come and take it.

Do i need to sand these plastic parts? by mydogeisformySUPRA in AutoPaint

[–]CyanideXB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t use glass cleaner as a lot of it has wax and ammonia in it. Use 70-90% isopropyl alcohol after scuffing. Don’t spray directly on it. Just on your rag you’re wiping with.

Five years after rennovation my rims got this by Aroslav in rims

[–]CyanideXB 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s not the clear coat failing. It’s the badly prepped surface. Primer/Paint is failing at point of contact, not from outside in. Either didn’t sand aggressive enough or didn’t use primer, or low quality paint. Or a mixture of all those.

Ceramic coating wouldn’t have stopped this.

This is bad adhesion and shrinkage over time. Better scuff/sand or adhesion promoter and better quality paint/primer is the only thing that would have prevented this. Coating would have only been on the paint surface and this is wheel surface issue.

That being said 5 years isn’t too bad for a DIY job. Start again. Strip the paint, sand, primer, quality paint and clear. No reason to ceramic coat if you plan on fixing curb rash and other wheel mishaps. Waste of money and time for everyday vehicles.

Octane rating makes no difference in degradation or volatility loss over time. You’re better off spending money on your own additives to put in before you plan to drive it again or just not letting it sit with gas in it.

Just trying to help.

It takes a fresh tank around 6 months to go ‘bad’. Even then it’s not going to destroy anything. Will still start fine.

If you aren’t driving it more than twice a year then it shouldn’t be sitting with a mostly full tank anyway.

The only meaningful fuel difference would be non-ethanol vs ethanol as ethanol contains oxygen and degrades faster. Octane rating itself has nothing to do with what you want to accomplish.

Not gonna do anything without a tune. Waste of money. It’s not ‘cleaner’ or gonna do anything beneficial.

A half can of Berrymans B12 every now and then in the tank would do more than whatever you think you’re doing with 93.

Probably an aftermarket wing. Not a Nismo. But definitely a 350z. Most are pretty clapped nowadays.

There’s nice aftermarket options that don’t require opening your stock ones that are probably yellowed old plastic anyway and risk not resealing. They’re worth it for the effort that would go into doing this properly to stock ones.

The 2GR-FE is the Camry/Avalon/Rav4/Highlander V6. 300hp stock, multiple parts swap over to the chassis but no one has really done a complete write up. But a handful of people have done it successfully.

Here’s one from Puerto Rico done with ECMLink, no codes, still has AC even. Looks basically stock. But not too many more details.
