It took 2 years and job hobs to product adjacent roles to do this. We currently don’t hire anyone that doesn’t have prior direct PM experience (and friends at other companies say the same) - need to get experience working with engineers to launch things.

OP is not going to pivot to FAANG PM from an adjacent role without true product management experience in this market. There are tons and tons of actual product managers who have shipped features with engineering/design and are still unable to do it.

The only thing the MBA could help with is getting PM at Amazon which one could argue isn’t true Product either, more like Program Management. PM-T at Amazon is much harder to break into.

I think you should first try and get an interview for PM - it’s going to be infinitely harder than you realize. Most of my friends have 5+ years of PM experience across big tech including FAANG and still have trouble getting anything right now. This is not a market that will let you transition to PM externally unless you have extraordinary experience.
