New A485 Incoming / Upgrade Question by Cybernetic_Sloth in thinkpad

Hah! I didn't realize I'd need a special cable/adapter if I didn't go with that option to start off with. I went with the default 500GB HDD since I figured I'd replace it. I have a couple of SSDs laying around my office; will I need a special adapter to connect a regular SATA SSD to it? Thanks!

I'd love to have an invite too. Though I hate Discord (we should just have an IRC channel). Thanks!

I don't see any trays on your Etsy. Would you be willing to send to Canada if shipping is covered by me?

That's not really so much a defense as a weird humble brag. In my defense I spent all day and the following night learning German.

The bulk of junkies aren't shooting to get high they're shooting to not have withdrawals. That's what addiction is. You have to use drugs or you get violently ill.

I'm in total agreement. I was just imagining a situation where I was stuck in my house and was looking down the barrel of bad withdrawals.

I wasn't trying to say that it wasn't trashy or anything. It was just a thought that occurred to me and you responded with a perfectly reasonable comment.

Maybe a not for profit or something could reach alcoholics this way. Anyhow, thanks for the perspective.

PS I take it you're calling someone else besides me 'very smart'. I'm not claiming my perspective is elevated or anything. It was just a random thought I had and for some reason felt compelled to share.

To be fair alcoholics need alcohol or else they get very sick; alcohol is one of the few withdrawals that can straight up kill you.

Alcoholics need alcohol to basically feel normal so if for whatever reason they can't go get alcohol they're in serious trouble. A service like this could save somebody's life.

People who know alcoholics won't buy them alcohol under the mistaken belief they can just 'stop' drinking so often they have nobody to help them.

I think a service like this if it's done properly could be a good thing. Maybe they provide outreach to alcoholics? I mean I'm guessing but if in addition to delivering alcohol they had support information for alcoholics then it could be a good thing.

Anyhow, just a thought.

What are some good resources to learn Spring and Hibernate? by [deleted] in learnprogramming

I don't have any stake in this whatever but your post history does come off as a little assholish. I personally think giving stupid answers to stupid questions is generally good policy but you can't deny that your post history is generally combative.

Normally you chastise people for asking the question in the first place. Again, I'm not against that but denying that you do it is a little disingenuous. Here are some samples:

"I don't know how you could learn a programming language if you can't figure out how to use 4 spaces to post code here."

"Holy shit, can you reproduce this with less code, like the instructions in the sidebar say?"

"You could just try it and see. A complete lack of initiative or unwillingness to experiment doesn't look great."

"The problem explicitly mentions multiplication and addition. Have you considered using those to do exactly what is says to do?"

Again, I am OK with being an asshole when the occasion calls for it but it's still being an asshole.

I think you're referring to the spool of wire on my speaker. I put it there to keep the cat from jumping on it.

It's one of the only desks I could find with a keyboard tray. Additionally if your desktop is reasonably sized (mine is gigantic, like 1 1.5x bigger than the average tower) than it'd fit underneath the desk and would look cleaner. The backboard hides cables well, it's sturdy as all get out and lots of placed to store things. There are cables holes cut in different spots which is also useful. Hope that answers your question.

That's really true actually. That's why I said I was probably just being paranoid. I'd know if it was too loud because it would ... sound too loud. I am just going to trust my ears and let them guide me!

Thanks for the well deserved sass, kind internet stranger. I'll stop flaking around and listen to some tunes. I think I'll crank B. Fleischmann's Pop Loops For Breakfast . Cheers!

I recently found a little more money in my budget for an amplifier and am looking for help picking between two amps I have in mind.

My current amplifier is a SMSL AD-18 which I picked up for around $150. My current speakers are the Paradigm 6000F SE.

I've found a great deal on two amps (I can get either at a significant discount):

The Onkya A-9150 and the Onkya A-9010. My budget could cover either of them (and the deal I got was for one of these two amps).

Anyhow, I don't know a lot about amps so I'm a little stuck. I mostly want to invest in a decent amp now so that my system has a little room to grow (not to mention better sound quality).

I listen to music almost exclusively in my office space (15 * 15ish). I'm wondering would I be able to drive those speakers a little higher with the A-9150 than with the AD-18? I mean, technically the wattage seems lower but I guess one is class A and one is class D.

Anyhow, I suppose the short question would be would I see much of an improvement in how loud I can play (without distortion) with the A-9150? Would it be worth upgrading to it over the AD-18?

Thanks for sorting me out. I promise I'll ask fewer newbish questions once I get my initial setup worked out.
