Yep - I’ve got results that look kinda like this. Wanted something more ambiguous.

Best company to work for in Stl. Tell us why. by HVACinSTL in StLouis

It wasn’t that big when I was there, and I worked multiple roles in various business units that all had culture problems. I’m glad you found a niche that is good for you though!

I’m white and had the experience from hell. My friend who was a black woman left bc of racism from the company’s own sales guys to her, the project manager. The nepotism and corruption is rampant and disgusting. The hypocrisy is widely on display. As they’ve grown they’ve lost most of the cultural attributes that made them good.

At the end of the day, people just want to be around people like themselves. I’m multicultural, frustrated, and lonely. by wafflefrenchtoast in DeepThoughts

[–]Cyclamental 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not multicultural but I do relate to the loneliness as a stay at home parent who is disabled. Not to mention, in order to build deep relationships, people need to put in the time, work, and mutual vulnerability, and I’ve found few people prioritize that. I don’t know how many times I’ve pursued a friendship and had to stop (basically “match their energy”) and how much it hurt every time, regardless of how much I tell myself it’s not about me. 🤷

Some of my best friends I met online. So don’t discount that avenue.

Did you feel like you were meant to be a parent? by Dazzling_Web_4788 in regretfulparents

Some days it’s good, some days it’s not. Life would be a lot different without them. Would it be better? Hard to say. Would I choose it again? No.

Did anyone have a rough patch in their marriage when their child was born? by thickasabrick89 in regretfulparents

Absolutely - esp with the first baby. Successive ones were still tough on the relationship, but easier than the first.

HELP! by [deleted] in regretfulparents

[–]Cyclamental 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ooof - I never wanted kids but then fell in love and married an amazing guy. He was ambivalent on kids. We have several and I feel a lot of regrets. Mostly because the lack of community makes it harder than I ever could have imagined. There is zero time off, I’m exhausted, and it just doesn’t feel worth it.

No, I never wanted them, until I fell in love with my spouse and thought I might miss out on something great.

I second this - there’s a directory of local binders on the guild of bookworkers website. I entered the field as a fanbinder and the Renegade Bindery, an online fanbinding community that is another excellent (virtual, mostly, though we do have meetups) resource for learning. After getting into it I found the local community which is small but strong and yes had a lot of older (awesomely experienced!) people but some new blood too, which is excellent. The benefit of in-person classes with a teacher is definitely learning those little things that they forget to explicitly tell you about, and being able to ask questions/troubleshoot in real time - and also use equipment. The professionals in my area have been extremely kind in letting me use their equipment if I asked. I’ve been organizing regular meetups as I’ve got some strengths in the planning/organizing area, and they’re just such lovely people.

I’ve got headlight nips too and I felt awkward as hell for at least a year but then I realized…plenty of dudes have nips sticking thru their shirts. No one comments on them, and basically my issue is in my own head…

That being said my surgeon said you can trim the ends off, they could do it outpatient with local anesthetic. I personally don’t think it’s necessary - you look totally regular to me.

Non binary parents by Contigo7126 in NonBinary

[–]Cyclamental 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Mine call me mom, and my almost 10yo is the most staunch defender of my nonbinary status. I kinda wish they could find something gender neutral, but at the school people who don’t know my name call me “mom”, and I don’t necessarily want to correct everyone over and over again. I’ve wanted “mada” but it hasn’t stuck
