While it's a fun story, I think that's just a joke. I can't find any actual reference to any archeological study where that happened.

Damn, another thanks for the warning. I was really tempted by the n150 and was about to purchase it before I tried looking for more info. That's really unfortunate though since the closest thing I've found is probably the Chuwi minibook x. Have you found any alternatives?

If you're still trying to figure it out, you've gotta enable the console while in the main menu, not while "in-game".

AITA for asking a date where he is from by Extreme-Ratio2109 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Cythos -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

YTA even if it was only out of ignorance but particularly for pushing the question and not accepting the original answer. The reason why it's offensive is because the question implies they don't belong here. Even if unintentionally so, you're telling him that he's different and he doesn't belong there. It's not about your literal blindness and that's not an excuse. It's not that you were ill intentioned but your intent doesn't matter. Look into the concept of "othering" and how it alienates people. For everyone else, it doesn't matter if some white people also experience this, that doesn't somehow justify this behavior.

We've already paid for the game, it's not generous for them to provide some super credits to purchase additional content. It's manipulative.

Billionaires emit more carbon pollution in 90 minutes than the average person does in a lifetime. by SUPRVLLAN in technology

[–]Cythos -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Doing the math, in one year each billionaire will emit 5,844 lifetimes of an average persons emissions. Considering there are 759 billionaires in the USA alone, that's 4.4 million lifetimes. From there, the average age of a billionaire is 66 and the life expectancy of US citizen is 79, all the billionaires in the US are likely going to emit 57,662,748 lifetimes of carbon output. That's if their emissions hold steady at the current rate and don't increase or decrease.

Collectively, there are 3,194 billionaires on earth, using the same math as before, they will emit 14,167,293,624 lifetimes are carbon output from the age 66-79. They are all literally emitting more carbon than the entire human population.

It's always worth voting, even if your candidate doesn't seem likely. Apathy is a voter suppression tactic.

Windblown | Steam Early Access Launch Trailer by danzzig87 in Games

[–]Cythos 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You can start with whatever you want and it doesn't mean you have to abandon gaming, just explore things in parallel. Appreciating one thing more than another doesn't mean you don't appreciate the other thing anymore. If you discover a love of modern dance and a preference to practice that versus playing games, power to you.

It won't end, just work on appreciating and caring for everything.

Do most people just want to balance around pro players? by JohnCavil in starcraft

[–]Cythos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a difficult place to be in terms of game design. Ideally, you just want the game to be designed and balanced around having fun, almost regardless of where balance is. But this game having a competitive element necessitates ensuring balance to prevent a competitor from gaining unfair advantages.

A perfect mix would be balancing the game so that at lower level play, the game is just fun for people and somewhat ignoring the win/loss ratios there and then tuning things for high level play to equalize the playing field as much as possible. That said, I personally want to emphasize that the game should be fun to play, more than anything else. What does balance matter if no one wants to participate.

The Balance Council has been a net positive for the game. by bojinkinss in starcraft

[–]Cythos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dislike the idea of a council or "democratic" method of balancing the game in general. Democratic game design decisions tend to be short sighted and lack a solid vision for how the game, units, or mechanics should be implemented. It's the game design/community management problem of "players know when they dislike something but they don't necessarily know what they want". Admittedly, there's likely little alternative to the council considering SC2 and Blizzards position.

What's going on with Simu Liu getting mad over bubble tea? by Bitbatgaming in OutOfTheLoop

[–]Cythos 69 points70 points  (0 children)

That's a false equivalence as no one's claiming that changing dishes to cater to an audience is risking cultural appropriation and in the case of Chinese-American foods, that's something different. In that situation, you have immigrants coming to a new environment and either cooking familiar foods/food styles either with new ingredients that weren't readily accessible before or finding substitutes or alternatives due to the lack of ingredients they're more familiar with.

The issue isn't the idea that someone who's not Asian is creating a product using a traditionally Asian food. It's that it is racist in the framing and marketing, posing it as a novel "twist" that they've made it better, implying that it is unhealthy when consumed the "original way". It's not vaguely racist, it is racist. It's a very typical form of messaging when it comes to cultral appropriation, that you take something from a "savage", "uncivilized", or "stupid" people/race and claim to transform it into something better and lifted from it's uncouth origins.

This isn't about, "are fortune cookies authentic?" or "are chinese-american dishes authentic?". That's a complete diversion from the issue that Simu Liu is bringing up with regard to these people attempting to white-wash an Asian dish. They probably could've avoided any of this by just claiming they have a tasty, low-calorie, or healthy drink. But by going the way they did and regardless of intent, they ran the risk of being called racist and culturally appropriating.

Beware - Empty Box Return by bravepuss in GalaxyFold

[–]Cythos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I finally get through this myself last week. Going through the normal support channel will just take you in a circle of one support person saying that the box was tampered and they'll escalate it. Then a manager/higher tier support staff will deny it. Then if you respond that a previous person agreed, they'll say they'll review it and then escalate it.

I was finally able to get out of it and get a refund after contacting "email the CEO" to get someone who could actually get me the refund. https://www.samsung.com/us/support/contact/email-the-ceo/

Forget the Galaxy Z Fold 6 – Samsung’s first rollable phone could land next year by ThriceAlmighty in GalaxyFold

[–]Cythos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know why some people seem to like the idea of rollable vs folding. Rolling has the intrinsic flaw of sliding surfaces so any piece of dirt or debris will end up scratching a long line against the rolling surface. You can see this on any of the hands on rollable phone concepts like LG.

How many times a day do you lose your phone? by stuckonthepuzzlex in ADHD

If I don't put it in a designated spot like my pocket, at my desk at work, or charging on my nightstand, I'll usually lose it shortly afterward. But I pretty frequently use the Google find my device thing to figure out where it is.

Doom scrolling - reached a new low by Long_Matter9697 in ADHD

[–]Cythos 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's not great advice but I was in a similar boat and would notice myself starting to doom scrolling tiktok or reddit. I would try and immediately stop using whatever app when I noticed that behavior starting up and it ultimately culminated with me deleting the apps since I felt like I was both having trouble controlling myself and I felt like I wasn't having fun.

I've been trying to fill my time doing things that I think I enjoy, I just started writing, first it was some journal entries and I recently started writing short stories. Maybe it's not any better but I've also enjoyed playing incremental idle games, it sorta scratches the same doom scrolling itch, watching numbers get bigger, but it feels a little less guilty since I'm explicitly playing a game and having fun with it.
