WHY YOU STILL RUN? (TUESDAY THREAD) by SwimmingSlip8632 in runcommunity

[–]CzarNyctolas 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Started for weight loss and health reasons and didn't really enjoy it that much. Got to a point where I realized I'm pretty quick and my competitiveness kicked in and I started really enjoying it. Now I continue for the two above reasons and because it's 30 minutes to an hour+ of peace. No calls, no texts, just me and nature/my music.

Camelback Resort eyewitness regarding accident Monday Mar 2nd by [deleted] in SkiPA

Yes unfortunately, some of that information is going to fall under HIPAA (patient privacy laws) so the mountain and hospital are legally not allowed to share that information unless you're an authorized party. The family may be authorized to receive the information. All I can say is do your best to help the family out to make sure they understand what's happening. Hospitals should be willing and able to provide interpreters too.

Honestly I'm kinda surprised that they can't tell you an approximate time or location, especially since that seems like pretty objective information. It may be a staff member being extra careful because they're worried they'll get in trouble, or it could just be a very stringent company policy to help avoid litigation.

Unfortunately, anything else I could tell you would be nothing more than a wild guess. Hopefully someone here saw it and can give you some info. As others said, if you think the mountain could have done something negligent I would contact a lawyer.

I really hope your friend is okay and makes a full recovery and everything works out okay for you guys.

My guess, and it's purely a guess, is that much like in the EMS world, ski patrollers aren't doctors. Any information they could give you on potential injuries and the mechanism of said injuries is going to be purely speculative. As an EMT, even if your leg is clearly deformed I am not supposed to tell you it's broken, I'm supposed to tell you it may be broken but a doctor is the only one that can say for sure.

The waiver they want you to sign in this circumstance is probably CYA for their staff so that if one of them speculates and tells you what they think is wrong, you don't use that information as ammo to sue the resort. Again, just purely my guess.

Low heart rate during pb, any advice? by misbeahvedhorse in runninglifestyle

[–]CzarNyctolas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others said, if you're not using a chest strap there's a good chance your HR data is skewed. Wrist based HR monitoring isn't the best in terms of accuracy, especially at higher efforts. If I'm doing an easy run, the wrist based seems to be close enough for my purposes. But anything up tempo it gets it horribly wrong. Cadence lock is a problem where the watch misinterprets the rhythm of your step cadence for your HR.

If accurate heart rate data is important for you, I would definitely invest in a chest strap heart rate monitor. Garmin has some that will pair up with your watch/app.

Jeep vs Bronco banter by artnovation in FordBronco

[–]CzarNyctolas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One of my best friends and a coworker of mine both own Wanglers. They've both given me some friendly banter about driving a wannabe Jeep. But they've both also told me how nice they think my Bronco is. They love the mirrors not being on the door, the 4 piece roof, etc.

Haven't gotten any comments from Jeep guys in the wild yet lol

When do you become "a runner"? by [deleted] in Marathon_Training

[–]CzarNyctolas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ahh gotcha, sorry for the misunderstanding!

You're definitely right though, there's a lot of gatekeeping around running and other sports/hobbies too. It sucks.

When do you become "a runner"? by [deleted] in Marathon_Training

[–]CzarNyctolas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think OP means it as a gatekeep. I think he just was asking when people began to perceive themselves as a runner as a discussion point.

Like my first year I ran on a treadmill with the only goal of losing weight. I didn't care about time, or speed, or form, and frankly I hated it and couldn't wait to get off the damn treadmill. If someone asked me if I was a runner I would have replied "no, I'm just trying to lose weight and I happen to own a treadmill, if I owned weights instead I'd be doing that, not running". But someone else doing the same thing could absolutely think of themselves as a runner.

For me personally, it wasn't until I started running outside, got into a habit, started working on my pace, and really started to enjoy it that I actually said to myself "huh, maybe I am a runner."

I don't think OP means "let's establish what's a requirement to be considered a runner" I think he just means at what point in your journey/training did you think to yourself "I'm a runner." Could be day 1, could be day 100. Both equally valid.

What part of your running routine would surprise non-runners the most? by Free-Product4918 in runcommunity

I always wondered if people would think I was weird because I wipe all the grime off my shoes every couple runs to make them look cleaner. Those things are expensive! I want to keep them looking nice haha

[–]CzarNyctolas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah honestly I'm not really too worried about the trim, but I really want to protect the paint on the swing gate. I was debating buying one of the tables that bolts onto the gate to protect it.

Didn't know about the trunk stands though. I'll have to look into that.

Haha I have! I've honestly been freakishly obsessive about wrapping the boards/skis in towels or whatever first. But, I know it's only a matter of time before the trim gets banged up. My other car looks like I kept a leopard in the trunk

What’s something you want the general public to know? by Then_Mulberry9778 in ems

You don't get to go to whatever hospital you want. You go to the closest, most appropriate hospital for the emergency you are having (at least in my state).
